It was about a year ago that we caught onto Jonathan Straiton’s crowdfunding efforts for original action horror feature, Johnny Z. Having reunited with cohorts from his 2016 horror romp, Night Of Something Strange, Johnny Z is finally on the way this week with Hurricane Bridge Entertainment and Black Mandala hailing the first official teaser ahead of a 2019 festival run and subsequent release.
I’ve recently put The Hit List to temporary rest but I still have my eye on certain individual projects and gems hailing from the auspices of DC Stunt Coalition. On the feature film front however, I’m also definitely looking forward to whatever lies ahead in the coming months, and Johnny Z is certainly one of them. Billed as an action horror feature that nods to films like Land Of The Dead and The Raid, the project hails from a concept pitched earlier on through crowdsourcing with Johnathan Straiton directing from Black Mandala and Hurricane Bridge Entertainment.
The latest update being offered now lends us a clear look at actor and martial artist Felix Cortes who plays a martial arts master sought by one of his pupils, a half-human zombie seeking vengeance on the evil corporation that created him. Actor Michael Merchant leads the film with David McMahon, Jason Delgado, Elle Church and Wayne Johnson with a script by Ron Bonk and action sequences by Film Combat Syndicate favorite, Dylan Hintz and DC Stunt Coalition.
If you’re at all new to Cortes, then you’re more than welcome to open up to his craft in the coming months. Master Instructor and Founder of (FCG) Filipino Combatives Global aka FC Kali Method, Cortes is a staple in the martial arts community having trained in multiple styles, and having previously become first-ever to earn the title of Tuhon in Sayoc Fighting System.

Straiton has partnered with Black Mandala (Inbred, What the Waters Left Behind) who will be overseeing worldwide distribution. He’ll be rejoined by co-star and producer, SRS Cinema’s own Ron Bonk scripting, with Film Combat Syndicate favorite Dylan Hintz serving as fight choreographer, and a cast that includes actor and martial artist Felix Cortes (Boniato, King’s Blade), and Night Of Something Strange cohorts Michael Merchant, Wayne W. Johnson and Trey Harrison.
