New Footage From ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI

Martial arts action cinema fans have watched and waited for anything and everything resembling a sign of life for Once Upon A Time In Shanghai, a production that only saw a year-and-a-half old promo teaser with lead action star, actor Philip Ng until recently. The film has since shown itself out with new sales art and a synopsis revealed back in early November as the film made the film festival rounds this year. This week, the new film from director Wong Ching-Po now has three viral non-English subtitled featurettes with snippets from the original promo and its behind the scenes segments, speaking segments from the cast and crew, clips from a training montage from 2010 and footage from the actual movie, with the second reel showcasing co-star Andy On‘s evolution as a certified action performer. Some of this footage is just now coming my way, so there may be more, […]

Classic TV Asashi Inspires LBP's Latest, SEIBU KEISATSU

Jerry Quill and Noah Fleder in Seibu Keisatsu. It’s another day, another week, and another stint of creativity from online independent action favorite, Emmanuel Manzanares of LBP Stunts Chicago as he unleashes new small skit with actors Jerry Quill and Noah Fleder titled Seibu Keisatsu, loosely based on a classic late 1970’s/early 1980’s Japanese television drama of the same name. It’s one of the many projects I have shared on the blog featuring Manzanares‘s work behind the camera, which in any case nowadays is his preferred place to be much of the time. Earlier on Monday afternoon, I chatted a bit with Manzanares about his career to learn a little bit more about what keeps him ticking. “I love being able to create, and push things out of performers that they maybe don’t realize they can do.” he says. “I really enjoy the journey of taking someone’s potential or existing […]

A STREET FIGHTER IN-TRAINING: A One-On-One With Rising Action Star MIKE MOH

Three years ago, actor and martial artist Joey Ansah launched a phenomenal effort in adaptating a shortfilm suitable to showcase a conceptual look into what should go into a properly designed live-action vision with the 2010 online release of Street Fighter: Legacy. This year, Ansah‘s newest theatrical series venture, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, delves right into the multi-generational expansion of the narrative introduced in the 2010 shortfilm, with lead actor and co-writer/creator Christian Howard, and fellow lead actor and today’s subject for interview, Mike Moh. With post-production underway since wrapping late in the summer, and in the process of developing my writing group for the site, I sought to Eric “Shamm” Watson (@Shamm523), martial artist and multi-faceted stunt professional who had a chance to meet Moh once upon a time. And considering the good rapport they developed off-and-on over the last several years, I thought it would be a great opportunity […]

Sunny Pang Rides A Giant Robot In The New Sci-Fi Action Short, ATLANTIS CONSPIRACY

Malaysian filmmaker James Lee and the folks over at Doghouse 73 Pictures are currently in the middle of working on a small slate of shortfilms that will release between now and 2014. Another one of those shortfilms includes Lee‘s latest step into science fiction territory with a new proof-of-concept shortfilm titled Atlantis Conspiracy, which sees actor Jourdan Lee Khoo and actress Laura M. Steigers taking on armed soldiers while protecting a rare piece of powerful armor. Also starring are Mano Maniam and Sunny Pang reuniting with Lee since working respectively on the 2011 horror comedy Sini Ada Hantu and the 2012 martial arts comedy romp, The Collector. Atlantis Conspiracy is a newly re-written shortstory from an original feature-length screenplay which Lee says he hopes will be a game-changer for Malaysia’s independent film scene. It’s worth a look, and it’s defintiely worth sharing and even observing as a possible big screen production, […]

Watch The New Trailer For The South Korean Action Thriller, THE SUSPECT

The so-called “Bourne formula” designed in recent years by the likes of writer and director Tony Gilroy and Paul Greengrass seems to be the way to go for a lot of movies these days. Visually, it’s a formula that most notably works with the involvement of cuts in editing and choreography that garner the attention of a specific fan base, which is what director Won Shin-yeon seems to be doing for his latest epic fast-paced South Korean thriller, The Suspect. A behind-the-scenes featurette trailer was unveiled earlier this month with actor Gao Yoon in full action star form, debuting in his first-ever lead role in an action movie about a former government agent on a mission of vengeance and in search of hidden enemy with nefarious plans that could threaten a nation. And on Friday this week, we now finally get to see a full trailer. So stay tuned for […]

JCVD Hates Guns But Will Kill You With His Bare Hands In The New Trailer For ENEMIES CLOSER!

It’s funny, whenever I see actors Tom Everett Scott and Orlando Jones, I think about that drummer from That Thing You Do and the actor from the syndicated sketch comedy series, Mad TV. Scott and Jones are the last two people you would expect to see in a movie starring opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme as two former military servants at odds with each other amidst the emergence of a murderous drug smuggler and his small army. Well, director Peter Hyams in his latest return to the set with the Belgian epic Volvo truck splitter since their previous time together on the set of Timecop and Sudden Death, made it happen once again for the forthcoming North American release of the new thriller, Enemies Closer. And after releasing an international trailer a few months ago, we now have a new viral trailer making the rounds courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, which shares […]
