Not a lot of Westerners know who Hairul Azreen is. If those same people are even remotely into what I and those in my demographic are when it comes to films, they would he in for a lovely surprise, endulging in some of Azreen’s more recent hits like Paskal, Wira and The Assistant. Three months since the announcement of pre-production for futuristic crime thriller, Berzerker, Film Combat Syndicate can confirm the casting of Malaysian actor and action star Hairul Azreen to lead Ranjeet S. Marwa’s new film. Azreen will play Noble, an ex-con who now walks as a free man, seeking revenge on those responsible for his incarceration. Marwa himself describes the overall tone and vision of the film as a unique blend of sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, and Prachya Pinkaew’s 2003 Thai barnburner martial arts flick, Ong-Bak. Berzerker has been in pre-production since March with Marwa set to direct from a script he wrote with co-scribe Daniel White. Principal photography will begin in Birmingham this July. Adrian Teh’s WIRA Returns Yayan Ruhian To Martial Arts Villainy In The Official Launch Teaser

Malaysian outlet Astro Shaw officially unveiled its launch teaser for upcoming action thriller, Wira. It’s director Adrian Teh’s latest follow-up from hit military actioner, Paskal, which reportedly sparked his interest in another military-themed project after the 2018 movie became a local hit. As the logline dictates, Wira has actors Hairul Azreen and Henley Hii rejoining Teh for the story of “an ex-military force character who is fearless in fighting but chooses to deal with problems in his diplomatic ways. However, circumstances leave him with no choice but to fight his way to obtain justice for his family and community.” Wira, of course, also sees legendary action star feat, Yayan Ruhian, co-starring next to forthcoming appearances in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and with Joe Taslim in June for Hit & Run. An official date remains pending, but the launch teaser remains all the more reason to keep a lookout.
