There are people like you and me. And, there are people who wake up one morning and are like “Hm. I wanna see Idris Elba fight a lion, or something.” Welp, someone certainly deserves a thanks for handing Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns) and screenwriter Ryan Engle (Rampage) a proper cup of coffee to keep them up and about and conjure what we now have in the official trailer for Universal’s latest, Beast. Sometimes the rustle in the bushes actually is a monster. If an all-black headlining cast for a slick, spiffy new western thriller is what you crave, pan over to the official trailer for The Harder They Fall from director Jeymes Samuel and starring Regina King, Idris Elba and Lakeith Stanfield. When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose. The viewcount is already bursting at the seams since […]
Filmmaker and stunt multi-hyphenate Sam Hargrave will direct potential action vehicle, Stay Frosty, for Warner Bros., following a successful auction bid by the studio. Upcoming The Suicide Squad actor Idris Elba will star in the pic, penned by Tyler Marceca, which is being billed as “big of a John Wick-type character in a throwback to ’80s high action Christmas movies that include Die Hard and Lethal Weapon“, according to Deadline. The film marks the latest addition to Hargrave’s workload after years of earning his stamp of stunt industry approval with numerous screen credits on both sides of the lens, partly including several Marvel Studios titles, as well as the Hunger Games franchise from Lionsgate. He made his directing debut with AGBO-produced Chris Hemsworth headliner, Extraction, which broke Netflix streaming records last year from its Spring launch, and is also in development for a sequel. After miraculously surviving a bullet to the head, a man […]

Borys Kit over at The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision column is bringing the gospel with actor Idris Elba circling the role of Deadshot for James Gunn’s sequel follow-up, The Suicide Squad. The report stipulates that as Elba and Gunn hit it off last week on Friday, the actor was the first choice following the departure of Will Smith who portrayed the role for David Ayer’s first installment in 2016. Also elucidated in the report is that Gunn, who now segues from his position at Disney’s Marvel feature film roster – leaving behind his script for a third Guardians Of The Galaxy which still needs a director – will use mostly new characters apart from Deadshot, including a possible return of actress Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Robbie is set to reprise the role in Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) for which cameras […]

Several reviews are already online following actor Idris Elba’s Sundance debut, Yardie, and his freshman effort at the helm has been a bit worse for wear. Some higher points note solid performances from the cast and Elba’s notable grasp of filmmaking among others but time will tell if future reviews and opinions will foresee a change in direction. Beyond that, the film is getting a European release later this year from StudioCanalUK based on Victor Headley’s 1992 novel and for this, we finally have an official trailer making arounds. Aml Ameen, memorably known from the first season of Netflix series, Sense8, leads the narrative and from the footage shown, it certainly looks the part and sells like a proper coming-of-age crime thriller for curious cinephiles so I’m definitely curious to see how other crowds respond. Set in ’70s Kingston and ’80s Hackney, Yardie centres on the life of a young […]
Apart from the hardcore fanbase, I’m likely as knowledgeable as the next person when it comes to Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series. That said, all I know is that Nikolaj Arcel’s forthcoming adaptation looks like a positively rich and sterling treatment and I’ve nary heard a bad word from netizens on the matter. It has Idris Elba starring opposite Matthew McConaughey in the story of a legendary gunslinger who, with the help of a young boy, sets out to defeat the evil “Man In Black” and prevent him from toppling the only barrier that wards off dark forces from consuming Earth. The trailers, in my opinion, are pretty much selling this movie in my opinion but I sincerely hope this lands the success it so deserves, especially with the hype training speeding off on talk of sequels and spin-off plans. The international trailer arrived this week. View it […]
This may very well be the first Stephen King-inspired film that has ever peaked my interest. Most films based on his work venture into horror, suspense and fantasy but there’s a thrill here worth appreciating in The Dark Tower from director Nikolaj Arcel. There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black. The film opens on August 4 with […]
A spate of tragic events throughout Europe late last year and this summer didn’t exactly help things for the production of director James Watkins’s latest action pic with actor Idris Elba. Still though, it garnered a release under its previous title, Bastille Day, finally presenting Elba as a workable action star for the screen and one hopes he keeps the pace going. As for American moviegoers, the formerly titled Bastille Day has been rebranded as The Take, courtesy of Focus World who are announcing the film’s November 18 theatrical and digital release in the U.S.. Elba is joined by Richard Madden and actress Charlotte Le Bon. SYNOPSIS: Michael Mason is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself hunted by the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar, the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a […]
Prospects are looking great for anime classic, Akira with Justin Lin currently circling the long-awaited live-action adaptation according to much fan fervor stemming from last week. Time will tell to see if and how that latest bit sticks while it’s been a few years since Lin was attached to a few projects, including an iteration of Jet Li classic, Shaolin Temple. Of course, sci-fi fans and Trekkies alike may be thankful for his involvement on Paramount Pictures’s third installation of the Star Trek reboot epic, Star Trek: Beyond. The latest trailers since then have all been exciting and stimulating along with several key bits of artwork, which much of that energy is ado with those grieving over the loss of its co-star, Anton Yelchin last week. All for the better though, the studio’s promotional campaign rolls on for a film that will undoubtedly pay tribute to Yelchin whose brilliant adaptation […]
In case you’ve forgotten, director James Watkins and the folks over at Studiocanal still have an action thriller to sell, and with its best foot forward with actor Idris Elba kicking down the action star door for Bastille Day which opens in the UK on April 22. The film joins him in a story of a tough CIA field agent in Paris who gets caught in a web of intrigue with only the help of an elusive pickpocket to solve a deadly conspiracy. Richard Madden of Game Of Thrones fame plays the pickpocket, and as you’re about to see, while he may be good at pickpocketing, he’s way less graceful when it comes to perilous foot chases atop of Parisian apartment structures. Geez, didn’t he see Harrison Ford make the same mistake in Frantic? Whew! Check out the clip below and a recent TV spot for the film!
The conversation surrounding actor Idris Elba’s status in action stardom bears tons of merit. His latest appeal to the niche in the new international action thriller, Bastille Day, makes a clear-cut case for this and in only the best way so far seen in the first trailer which premiered a few weeks ago. Thus, screw what the naysayers have to say with respect to any mention of him as James Bond. I’m all for it as Elba rightly proves himself judging by what we’ve seen so far in his latest venture from director James Watkins, and with this, we get two fresh and spanking-new teaser posters ahead of its April 22 release in the U.K.. Check them both out in the album further down below! SYNOPSIS: Michael Mason (Richard Madden, ‘GAME OF THRONES’) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself hunted by the CIA when he steals […]
With renouned author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series taking shape at Sony and MRC, King himself confirmed a la Twitter, actors Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as the first to be cast for the new film as post-apocalyptic gun slinger. The two were initially up for roles in the film since late 2015 with Nikolas Arcej attached to direct. Adapted for the screen by Arcej along with Anders Thomas Jensen, executive producer Jeff Pinker and producer Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road, Elba and McConaughey will portray the respective roles of post-apocalyptic gun-slinger Roland Deschain, and the villainous man in black. The film is based on King’s popular book series which began with the 1982 publication, “The Gunslinger”, offsetting eight books and several comic book installments that take its inspirational cues from the works of authors Robert Browning and J.R.R. Tolkien, and famed spaghetti western director Sergio Leone. via […]
