Being the prominent comedy writer he is, actor Bob Odenkirk spent two years getting in shape for his long-awaited action thriller, Nobody, from Hardcore Henry helmer Ilya Naishuller. He tells all including the following in an exclusive over at IGN on Thursday, about some of the challenges he faced in playing his character. “The hardest thing about doing Nobody was to be deprived of the ironic dimension of the performance. I wanted to play a sort of earnest action hero like Charles Bronson in Death Wish, in these 70s movies that I loved growing up, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry and that s***. So I was going to deprive myself of being a wisecracker and making fun of myself,” he said. “It’s hard for me to do a scene that’s utterly earnest. … And this goes for Better Call Saul, too. When I don’t get to have a little wink […]
Director Ilya Naishuller (a.k.a. everyone’s favorite director of this 2013 music video) is reportedly on deck to helm action thriller, Nobody. Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) was attached to the film in January. Derek Kolstad (John Wick trilogy) is penning the script which centers on a man pushed to his limits when coming to the defense of a woman ultimately has him hospitalizing one of her assailants whose brother, a drug kingpin, then sets out for revenge. Nobody will be Naishuller’s second feature film for STX, the company that wasted no time in 2015 snagging U.S. distro right to his rousing debut, Hardcore Henry. Odenkirk is producing with Marc Provissiero through their Odenkirk-Provissiero banner along with Braden Aftergood. Prolific stunt training and film production banner 87Eleven also boarded the project earlier this year at STX. Geeks Worldwide‘s Christopher Marc on Sunday afffirmed in his exclusive that production is set to […]
Well, it was a weekend of work, anime and sleep. Thankfully the second now comes with good word of a few notable titles now available at Crunchyroll that I can finally finish where Netflix left off since they often store incomplete shows… …Anyway, enough of that. It’s time to get to a trio of meaty, mighty playlists for this week’s installment of THE HIT LIST that I know you will have plenty to fill up with. And on that note, we can always count on actor, martial artist, stuntman and filmmaker Eric Jacobus to lead the way for videos specially attributed to the Tekken game franchise. With another already in tow, Armor King is now staking his claim via Eric’s YouTube channel first up in the playlist below, followed by a slew of stunt and demo reels by Luci Romberg, Jake Teel, Sakaeda Ayami, Justin Hall, Daisy Fryer, Fernando Campos, […]
I suppose I was never going to see this on the big screen. Thankfully I got myself a new TV that performs superbly and a nice little viewing of Hardcore Henry should do me some wonders this summer. The film has been a critical hit in the past year among cinephiles and those fond of commercialized first-person storytelling as of late and time will tell just exactly what lies next from the mind of Ilya Naishuller. Universal Pictures is releasing the film, eagerly snagged by STX Entertainment for the U.S. rights earlier on for its big screen distribution, and the latest announcement and trailer are below! UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., May 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Brace yourself for one of the most unflinchingly original wild rides when the adrenaline-fueled action hit Hardcore Henry arrives on Digital HD on July 12, 2016 and on Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand on July 26, […]
Henry is just an average guy… An average guy who was blown to pieces, rebuilt as a cyborg and now has to tear his way through Russia to save his wife from a telekinetic madman who looks and sounds like an albino Tommy Wiseau. Yup, perfectly normal guy with first world problems. What’s the Meaning of This? To the uninitiated (which is precisely NO ONE reading this review), Hardcore Henry is the crazy, feature length, first person action movie straight from the mind of director/cameraman/stunt wizard Ilya Naishuller. The film is the logical next step after his wildly popular music video “Bad Motherfucker” hit it big on YouTube with over 32 million views. The biggest question mark for this film is “can a viral YouTube video translate into an entertaining feature film?” The “Story” Even by action movie standards, Hardcore Henry’s plot is paper thin. The film has a pretty […]
It’s about that time again and with director Ilya Naishuller making the rounds this month ahead of the U.S. release of his newest first-person action thriller, Hardcore Henry. It’s basically been all the buzz since late last year and I’m purely jealous of everyone else who’s seen it in the festivals, so obviously I’ll try to make an effort myself to catch this bad boy because it looks so amazing. SYNOPSIS: Strap in. HARDCORE HENRY is one of the most unflinchingly original wild-rides to hit the big screen in a long time: You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky); he’s a powerful […]

That said and judging by the reactions so far, I think it’s fair to say this movie is about to sell the hell out of itself! SYNOPSIS: Strap in. Following its ceremonious receival late last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and subsequent climatic rights acquisition by STX Entertainment, Ilya Naishuller’s newest thrilling actioner, Hardcore, has been re-titled as Hardcore Henry for an April 8 release. Deadline reports the film’s release date coincides with STX Entertainment’s release strategy to target college Spring breakers and 18-to-25 year olds alike with the company expected to launch a massive screening and promotional campaign between now and then. SYNOPSIS: You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. And just like that, two years have passed since high-flying director Ilya Naishuller made waves over the news on his feature debut, Hardcore, leveling up the sheer brilliance he put on display in the ever-popular Biting Elbows music video, Bad Motherfucker. More to the point, as ambitious as it is to trailblaze for the sake of the world’s first POV action movie told 100% entirely from the perspective of the hero, Naishuller and his crew made it happen, and the latest trailer is all the proof you need on how badass Hardcore will be when it unloads its world of unmitigated cyberpunk kickassery on the masses in Toronto next week and in the months following. SYNOPSIS: You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife. She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg. 5 minutes later, your wife […]
Director Ilya Naishuller isn’t here to bullshit you. The popularity of his direction on Biting Elbow’s Bad Motherfucker music video has gone ridiculously viral in the last year or more, and its given him just the momentum he needed to film his latest first-person endeavor, Hardcore, centered on a resurrected robot who must rescue his wife/creator from an evil telekinetic with the help of actor Sharlto Copley. The film already has a teaser clip now making the rounds as of last year, offering an amazingly gruesome and awesomely brutal sample of the delightful that awaits, and no less muscled in further with Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambatov producing. Alas, there’s no need to take my word for it with tickets now available for Midnight Madness premiere next Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the new poster along with Colin Geddes’s program notes pretty much do all the talking from […]
It’s been a year since producer Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) officially announced production for what he and the crew are billing as “the world’s first ever POV sci-fi action movie”, titled Hardcore. It came at the height of popularity over director Ilya Naishuller‘s explosive viral music video sensation, “Bad Motherfucker”, which featured its own theme filled with first-person POV-style parkour and car chase sequences, fist fights and whimsical elements of science fiction to boot, ultimately garnering millions upon millions of views on YouTube and multiple sites. Well, we are a year and a half into waiting now, and with starring actor Sharlto Copley gaining timely traction for the upcoming release of Chappie, the team behind Hardcore are going public with a serious progress report in the form of a three-minute clip showcasing just what lies ahead for the film’s release. Mind you, what they were promising moviegoers was a feature-length thriller […]
Ilya Naishuller (pictured left) the living, breathing film genius behind the explosive action movie music video megahit, Bad Motherfucker, is set to direct a new superhero film called Hardcore. The film will be shot in Russia and produced by Russian-Kazakh filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, whose credits include the 2008 bullet-curving action thriller, Wanted, and the 2012 fantasy history-twisting fantasy horror flick, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Katia Kononeko and Inga Vainshtein are also producing. Casting and plot details are few and far between at the moment, but word is actor Sharlto Copley is set to star in the film as the main hero, with the entire film shot in first person, as per Naishuller‘s previous work. The plot for Hardcore is not yet fully known, but is said to focus primarily on a stylized science fiction setting where Copley’s character will be killing numerous bad guys to rescue a damsel in distress. Copley, […]
