Cerebrus Entertainment's Short, ABYSS OF BEING, Moves Ahead On Indiegogo
While newly-launched Cerebrus Entertainment could have placed its focus on any other type of project, the most formidable subject of the one at hand as of late has so far proven to be the most compelling, as it is also the most inspired piece of work by far. The new shortfilm, Abyss Of Being is one that comes straight from the heart for actor, filmmaker and producer Cloud Mykals who stars in the short withcontemplative and dramatic look into what life is like on the other side for soldiers home from the battlefield.
Mykals should know, as his previous service as a U.S. Airborne Infantry soldier dating back to 2003 is so stated on the project’s new Indiegogo campaign page where crowdfunding is now underway to help turn Abyss Of Being into a full-length feature film. The short itself has been out for a while now and aside from the usual genre-related material I share, I highly recommend checking the short not only for its adherance to acting caliber and talent on hand, but the substance it bares in its approach toward the issue of PTSD. Mykals’s acting is awesome, as well as that of his co-star, Arron Fenton, and as for my previous analysis, I stick proudly by it.

Indiegogo Alert: Help Bring Ninjas To NYC For Subway Cinema's 5th OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FEST This April!
If you’re like me and you’re not a heavily educated film buff on classic ninja movies (I blame my deprived childhood for that one), then you understand what that kind of pain means. However, there is still hope as people like the longstanding cinephiles over at Subway Cinema are poised to host their fifth Old School Kung Fu Film Fest at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City with a slew of original 35mm prints of classic ninja films for our viewing pleasure. This year though, they’re going to need a but more help.
Subway Cinema is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to pay the owners of the original prints and, among other things, help rent the equipment and space needed to help make Old School Kung Fu Film Fest 2015 happen. The festival’s four-day event is set between 16th and the 19th this April and with the campaign ending in less than a month with well over 5k to raise, they could sure use every bit of help and support, and as always, donations to such movements as these are always rewarded – In this case, free tickets for you and your friends to opening night, the secret screener, and even your own damn sword. A SWORD…you little ninja wannabe you!
Head over to the Indiegogo and support the campaign by either donating, sharing or telling your friends about this event. Hell, if you run a website and write about stuff like this, by all means, have at it!
I ONLY NEED ONE: Help Crowdfund The New Bond-Inspired Action Short
Action actor and stuntman Andrew J. Neis is spearheading the project on Indiegogo to advance the directorial debut of Matthew Salanoa for an inspired look into Ian Fleming’s cinematic universe filled with mystery, intrigue and danger at every turn. For Salanoa‘s take, it goes a little something like this:
The Latest Indiegogo For Austin St. John Starrer, SURVIVAL'S END, Asks One Question
It’s been well over a decade since TV movie director and documentation, award-winning filmmaker Daniel E. Springen has sat in the director’s chair, although much of his career has been spent as a producer for films like Contract Killer, Just Another Day, and last year’s Frank vs. God. This year however, Springen is coming back to the fray in an all-new feature-length film now crowdfunding via Indiegogo for the brand new apocalyltic survivalist action thriller, Survival’s End, the story set in a version of America ravaged by the virility of the Ebola virus where an ex-military specialist must use his tactical survial skills to help a band of survivors escape government-imposed death squads.
This, right here, sounds like a truly badass plot line worth selling as an action feature with all the potential to serve to sci-fi fans as well as action junkies. Of course though, every action movie needs a fantastic leading man to fill the shoes. Henceforth, that task now goes to actor Austin St. John, whose career stemming from the early nineties as a leading cast member in the American toku action family series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and the second of two subsequent feature films, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, has since led him on a path as journeyman helping others in the U.S. and around the world as an EMT paramedic and firefighter. St. John briefly discusses this in the latest campaign video to help fund the film, and there’s no question that such experience will serve him will for a role of this caliber, on top of being a martial artists as well as a veteran screenfighter who is no stranger to the camera, provided the right choreographer comes on board. It also helps that St. John is also in touch with the Tokusatsu community as much as his fellow former Ranger cast and if you follow the Comic-Con scene enough, you’re likely to spot him, in which case, your next chance to meet him will be in Oz in the latter half of June, and there’s more information available at his official website.
At any rate, Survival’s End is looking to help fill at least thirty percent of its budget through Indiegogo with the rest of the financing coming through from a film program at Florida’s own Valencia College in Orlando. Watch the campaign video over at the official Indiegogo page where you’ll find more details on the film, how you can help, and the perks you may earn as well.

KNIGHT IN THE RAIN: Help Blue Kanji Films Crowdfund Their Debut Martial Arts Sci-Fi Feature
Just on the heels of a major launch party this week in Santa Fe, California, independent production company Blue Kanji Films is gearing up with two months of crowdfunding ahead for their first-ever feature film production, Knight In The Rain. The project marks the latest debut for actor and filmmaker Wilder Herms, returning to the set once again with actor and martial artist D.Y. Sao after earlier starring in R.L. Scott’s 2010 martial arts thriller, Champion Road: Arena.
The project is currently underway with a concept teaser, with the goal of hopefully raising anywhere from $66k to stretch goals at or beyond $100k to begin production next year for a 2016 release. Set in futuristic San Francisco, Sao himself will lead in a story as Luke Knight, who, with the help of colorful friends, must fend against an evil corporate CEO and crime lord and his minions, and while the plot here may come off as fuzzy, it’s also just a glimpse of what could come as there may be some twists and turns along the way for a film of this caliber, on top of branishing a heavy-dose of sci-fi visuals, action and stylish brutality with martial arts at its very core. With that in mind, you may be wondering just why D.Y. Sao, member of international martial arts stage troupe, Kung Fu Heroes, is the man of choice to lead this story. Well, unless you’ve seen Champion Road: Arena, you may also catch him a recently-released experimental martial arts webseries pilot for Cambodian Killers, which should answer some of your concerns.

The film will be Mat Sunderland‘s directorial debut with a script by Mark Pallis. Help Fund Filmmaker A.J. Singh's New 80's Hong Kong Action Homage, FALLING ASH
Currently in progress is a new crowdsourcer for the latest contribution to the martial arts action genre from UK-based filmmaker, A.J. Singh. The longtime film purveyor is spearheading a funding effort for the new film, Falling Ash, in which he will also star as the lead.
Among a few other essentials, the project has secured a cast, namely actor and martial arts performers Silvio Simac and Mark Sears, and actress Marysia S. Peres. Singh‘s new film is the latest in what he suggests will be a promises will be a “unique of blend character-driven plot, with a grounded sense of reality; combined with the quality of action, prevalent in Hong Kong Cinema of the 1980’s”.
Here’s the setup:
Ashwin ‘Ash’ Singh (AJ Singh) is a man who’s never had luck on his side. His ‘simple’ life on the streets soon changes when he saves the life of Alvaro ‘Al’ Ciancio (Mark Sears). He soon becomes embroiled in Al’s business affairs, gets the attention of Al’s younger sister, Maria (Marysia S. Peres); as well as Al’s enemies – namely is ‘cousin’ Pasquale Salvitti (Silvio Simac).
Ash’s intervention on that fateful night, sets in motion a chain of events that will make Ash question loyalties, face dilemmas, matters of the heart, and his own demons…
Simac, whose credits notably include D.O.A.: Dead Or Alive and Transporter 3, is also poised to appear in writer and director Guy Bleyaert’s forrhcoming action thriller Transit 17 – also starring actress and martial artist Zara Phythian (Personally, I hope Simac plays M. Bison in this awesome webseries. *knocks on wood*).
In the meantime, for more info on Singh‘s new venture into 1980’s Hong Kong action fanfare, head over to the official Falling Ash indiegogo page and watch their new campaign video. And by all means, donate and/or share the page to your heart’s desire!
French Indie Short Project DRAGON BALL Z: THE FALL OF MEN Gets A Fiery New Teaser!
Fan fare over the success of manga author Akira Toriyama’s classic property, Dragon Ball Z is unyielding, and has inspired plenty of artists over the years to pursue their own vision in the universe in a way that would entertain fans. On this end, leave it to the likes of Normandy-based film school graduate and independent filmmaker Yohan Faure, and art director Vianney Griffon, who began showing for their efforts in a test teaser they accompanied with a push on Indiegogo last year to get things started, and unfortnately those efforts came short.
So what’s the big deal? Well, the big deal happens to be that somehow they’ve managed to get the engine running. And, not only is the upcoming short fan film in post production, but according to my source – the project’s featured stunt performer, stunt double and fight choreographer Anthony Pho, the shortfilm is also poised for a 3D presentation for its climactic final fight scene. And this is an indie project we’re talking, which is pretty rare. But with the awesome nature of the Dragon Ball universe, if you were a filmmaker and wanted to present a product that would succeed in turning heads with a small 3D ornamentation as a plus, then if the new official teaser below is any indication, you’re coming pretty damn close.
“The world is not like it is supposed to be, something happened in the course of time…”
With these words Trunks wakes up in the middle of a ruined city. He then remembers the loss of his friends, his preparation to fight Cell, even though he knows he might not be strong enough, he will still try to make a difference.
“The Fall of Men” is born from our desire to tell the DRAGON BALL Z story in a more realistic and dramatic way. Set in a different future than the canon, this untold story focuses on the son of VEGETA who tries to save the Earth against the infamous CELL.
Dragon Ball Z: The Fall Of Men has a Facebook that could use your attention between now and its release sometime next year. So, feel free to watch the trailer below and head over to the Facebook page and follow where this goes.
UPDATE – 7/12/14 – 7:00am EST: A previous version of this article stated the entire shortfilm was getting a 3D conversion. That detail has since been corrected.
Indie Fan Short, MORTAL KOMBAT: THE ONE Relauches Indiegogo
Mortal Kombat is still a thing these days, with a brand new game on the way, in addition to current preparations being made for a third season to the Kevin Tancharoen-directed webseries with an official announcement pending, and feature film that’s been a huge question mark since 2011. But the fanfare is still going, and independent filmmaker and New York University Tisch School film major Anthony Pellino is currently working on his own shortfilm contribution to the classic tournament fighting game franchise with Mortal Kombat: The One, following a crowdfunder back in February and principle photography just a few months later.
At the moment, however, production is at a standstill with a few scenes needed to be reshot, including the final fight of the project, and the production is now at the top of a new crowdfunder to help claim the funds needed to unveil the project on January 1. But not for nothing, as Pellino has also unveiled a brand new trailer to help inspire your interest.
SYNOPSIS:
Set a few years before the 10th tournament in Manhattan, Rayden is desperate. He has very few leads on potential fighters, and he knows this is his last chance. He needs the best. By blackmailing an even more desperate on-the-run Sub-Zero, (running from the Cyber Initiative) Rayden promises Sub-Zero protection from the Lin-Kuei in exchange for services.
Together they devise ways to lure the very small list of fighters they have into joining their cause and training them up until the tournament.

Indiegogo Alert: Help Raise Funds For THE BLACK WASP STRIKES!
Independent filmmakers Richard and Chris Pelletier have a new shortfilm they want to bring to the masses this year with The Black Wasp Strikes, a retro noir action comedy featuring actor and stuntman Thomas Tan in the lead. The trailer, as seen at the bottom of the page has already gone viral as of February this year, and now, the Pelletiers are looking to wrap up post-production with the aid of a high-quality studio, appropriated with the right equipment to bring a memorable and noteworthy treat to fans of indie film and martial arts action.
As things stand, the only way this can happen is with your support through their newly-launched Indiegogo campaign platform to the tune of $3000, and not just to help finish a movie either; Aside from the usual list of cool gifts you can earn in exchange for your generosity, 10% of the proceeds have already been pre-distributed to Love Without Boundaries Foundation, a charity devoted specifically to helping orphaned and impoverised kids around the world, which I’d say is the coolest perk involved in this campaign.
So, without further ado, help the Black Wasp defeat the evil Mr. White and save the children! Check out the trailer below and take a gander at the official Indiegogo platform for more info, and by all means, feel free to share the Indiegogo page to help their cause.
