You know the first reactions that comes out when news breaks of a new Jason Statham film being shot is excitement. To this, expect as much now that we know that the Transporter and Expendables franchise cohort is now in toe with a new film from Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh. What are the details, exactly? We know the project was launched by international sales outlet Black Bear at the Marche du Film last year with 2 Guns director Baltasar Kormakur attached before having to leave. Also, there’s no title or any real core plot details to divulge, save for the vague outline reported by Andreas Wiseman in a Deadline exclusive on Tuesday, describing a story that follows “a man pulled back towards the ghosts of his violent past”. That whole entire quote is a subgenre of its own, practically, right along with the cadre of Dad-Action films like Nobody, […]
David Ayer sees you, kids! He knows you loved The Beekeeper, and whether or not we get a sequel to that remains to be seen. Nevertheless, we now have A Working Man to fawn over with Ayer reteaming with Jason Statham, and an official trailer tuned to a medley of all-you-can-eat Statham-flavored beat downs. Whee! Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined. A Working Man also stars Jason Flemyng, Merab Ninidze, Maximilian Osinski, Cokey Falkow, with Michael Peña and David Harbour, as well as Noemi Gonzalez, Arianna Rivas, Emmett J. Scanlan, and Eve Mauro. Ayer directs and produces from a script he co-wrote […]
Fans of “The Stath” will be sure to get some more action in 2025 with Mutiny, from Plane director Jean-François Richet. Actor Jason Statham revealed a first look at the film in an Instagram post on Monday with production already underway in the UK. After his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy. Lionsgate took North American rights on the pic ahead of Cannes earlier this year and is releasing the film wide in theaters in 2025. Richet is directing from a script by Lindsay Michel and Plane scribe JP Davis. Munity also stars Annabelle Wallis, and hails from Mad River Pictures and Statham’s Punch Palace label. John Wick kills people with pencils. As far as competition goes, Jason Statham’s latest lead role needs nothing more than a jar of honey to do the trick in what MGM has up its sleeve from director David Ayer with revenge and retribution thriller, The Beekeeper. This one’s been a go-to for a while now as everyone who’s kept up with Statham’s escapdes as a Transporter and an Expendable up to this point has been curious as heck to learn more about this project since its announcement last year with Suicide Squad and Bright helmer David Ayer attached to direct. Statham headlines The Beekeeper which centers on one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance, as it takes on national stakes when he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.” The movie also stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, and Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, […]
Lionsgate is currently campaigning for the upcoming release of Expend4bles next week, and that includes its volley of preview clips that’ll be circulating online until then. The latest clip is available below as well, featuring Jason Statham and Iko Uwais which you can view below: Here’s the thing: We’ve been here before. Say what you will about Mile 22, I certainly have. Indeed, that film was in different hands, although it doesn’t change the fact that Uwais hasn’t had a proper presentation of his skillset as an action star apart from his feature film showcase in “Wu Assssins” spin-off, Fistful Of Vengeance on Netflix. Expend4bles is directed by Scott Waugh who we last heard from following the aforementioned streamer’s release of his Jackie Chan/John Cena headliner, Hidden Strike. The film is an ample serving of action for fans of the genre and Chan alike, but it’s important to note that […]
Barring what awaits for director Scott Waugh’s Chan/Cena experiment in Hidden Strike, it’s what comes next that will undoubtedly be an inviting feat for Lionsgate following its brimming success with John Wick: Chapter 4. Indeed, it’s the return once again of Sly and co. for Expend4bles, and with that exact spelling and tagline as indicated at last year’s CinemaCon. A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in Expend4bles. Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other […]
The excitement of fans watching Jason Statham ideally chin-check a shark hasn’t waned since Jon Turteltaub 2018’s summer spectacle, The Meg. The sequel, directed by Ben Wheatley and nodding to Steve Alten’s 1999 novel, is now in toe and with an August 4 release from Warner Bros. Pictures announced following an electric day of social media hype, the official trailer has finally arrived for The Meg 2: The Trench, and it is out to show us its teeth! Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in […]
Reviews are mixed following early screenings of Guy Ritchie’s newest venture, Operation Fortune, which has since suffered a long stalemate when its release through STX was kiboshed early last year. Say what you may of the reasons now that we’re a year later, but the film is now in the hands of Lionsgate for its stateside release, and on top of Ritchie’s pairing with leading man of action Jason Statham once more and an ensemble cast therein, the addition of the phenomenal Aubrey Plaza feels like the ultimate sweetener of a long-awaited deal. In the film, super spy Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) must track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology wielded by billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant). Reluctantly teamed with some of the world’s best operatives (Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone), Fortune and his crew recruit Hollywood’s biggest movie star Danny Francesco […]
KFTV has word that production in London has begun on The Beekeeper, from director David Ayer (Bright, Sabotage) and starring Jason Statham (Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw). The film marks a reunion for the action star with MGM following their previous involvement on Guy Ritchie revenge thriller, Wrath Of Man, with the company acquiring the film for U.S. distribution as of late last month. Ayer directs the film from a script by Kurt Wimmer, which “centres on one man’s campaign for vengeance – a quest that has very high stakes as he is revealed to have been associated with a secretive and powerful organisation known as ‘The Beekeepers’. Pic hails from Ayer’s Cedar Park Entertainment whose Chris Long is producing next to Miramax’s Bill Block, and with Statham also producing.
• Kieran Hawkes will direct prison drama Branded from a script by Alessandro Camon, which takes its cues from David Grann’s The New Yorker article, “The Brand”. The film will also star Frank Grillo, Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova, and Tom Hopper, and hails from Identity Media and Dark Dreams Entertainment. HanWay is selling international sales at Cannes with CAA Media Finance representing U.S.. (THR) • Jolt actress Kate Beckinsale will star in Canary Black from Taken and Peppermint helmer Pierre Morel. Eleven years since making trilogy headway, The Expendables franchise will reunite Lionsgate and Millenium Media to shoot its fourth installment later this October with much of the main cast reprising its roles; Jason Statham is reportedly leading the cast this time around and will be joined by Megan Fox as the female lead, with regulars Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Sylvester Stallone, Statham’s Furious Seven cohort/martial arts action star star Tony Jaa, and Stallone’s Escape Plan co-star Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson also starring. Jason Statham has had a long and varied career as an actor. If you close your eyes though and picture a “Jason Statham” movie, I would hazard a guess that the mental image that is conjured up is one of two possible archetypes from his filmography: one the “action hero”, stoic and invincible, the other the “charming hoodlum” funny and quick-witted with just a bit of grime under his fingernails. Both are capable but in very different ways. These two sides of Statham have never really coexisted in the same film. They feel pulled from two different eras of his performing life- a divide between the days of him as a “character actor” and as a “movie star.” With his latest film, WRATH OF MAN, those two aspects are fully represented under the guidance of the filmmaker who gave him his first big break, writer/director Guy Ritchie (THE GENTLEMEN). WRATH […]
Word has it that Jason Statham will be back in cinemas punching sharks again soon enough if Ben Wheatley’s involvement on a Meg sequel is any hint. In the meantime, you can look for the ole’ cockey bloke to punch regular Bobs in the face instead, along with a whole ‘nother list of violent gratuities in the new revenge thriller, Wrath Of Man, which now has a red-band trailer to help show you just how vengeful our man gets. A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score. Guy Ritchie reunites with Statham to direct from a script co-written with Ivan Atkinson and Marn […]
It’s been two years since Jason Statham thrilled us with high-seas fracas in The Meg and the boorish and macho shenaniganry alongside The Rock that was Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Now he’s back and in full-‘Stath’ regalia, having since rejoined director Guy Ritchie for the first of two films together, and thus, we now have a look at what’s in store for Ritchie’s Le Convoyeur revisal, Wrath Of Man apart from last week’s poster reveal. It’s good to see Stath back in action. The past year has seen a few revists of […]
