Folks attending this year’s Berlinale are just days away from the world premiere of Byun Sung-hyun’s killer-looking new thriller, Kill Bok-soon. The Netflix exclusive is back in the headlines as of late Wednesday with a brand new trailer that definitely cranks things up with hard-hitting violence to entice the genre fandom a bit, and with none other than Jeon Do-yeon leading the charge. If you enjoyed last year’s Kingmaker and 2017’s The Merciless, then you’ve got some viewing prospects at work with the official trailer now online for Byun Sung-hyun’s new crime drama, Kill Bok-soon. The pic is part of Netflix’s huge wave of content set to arrive from South Korea as the year rolls on, with Byun directing from his own script and actress Jeon Do-yeon (Emergency Declaration) starring in the title role.
Screener Review: MEMORIES OF THE SWORD (2015)
Though despite the visual onslaught of slow motion action, this movie is still a drama. Veteran actors of Lee and Jeon give great performances of their fallen hero characters, while newcomers like Kim Go-Eun and Lee Jun-Ho are definite grabs for the younger audience. All in all, this is a great looking film, but it really doesn’t break any walls. And it doesn’t mean to.

Writer and director Park Heung-sik‘s latest period actioner, Memories Of The Sword, is gearing up for a theatrical release on August 13, which is less than a month away as of this write-up. The film had been in limbo late last year but with things picking up since then, trailers are now circulating and we now have a first full trailer for fans and those interested to sample Park‘s enchanting vision for a story of vengeance and catastrophic fate.
SYNOPSIS:
Three warriors, Poong-chun, Wol-so, and Yu-baek pleadge to fight against the incompetent king. However, the betrayal of Yu-baek leads to Poong-chun’s death, and Wol-so disappears with Poong-chun’s young daughter – Hong-yi – as stricken by guilt. 18 years later, Hong-yi leaves Wol-so and plans to get revenge on both Yu-baek and Wol-so.
It’s a story of one young woman’s destiny written in blood, headlined by a stellar cast with a look that will surely bode well with the wuxia fanbase. International star Lee Byung-hun joins lead actresses Kim Go-Eun and Jeon Do-yeon. Watch the trailer now.
