LADY BLOODFIGHT Officially Adds Two More With Four New Posters
The production of director Chris Nahon‘s new tournament action thriller, Lady Bloodfight, is set to resume at some point between later this month and February. Not all the details are being handed out just yet, although we’ve already been graced with a number of viral photos dating back to late last year with Nahon joined by actress Amy Johnston, producer Bey Logan and action choreographer Hung Yan Yan and others.
Nowadays, with filming almost right around the corner, Logan is currently unveiling four new promotional character photos for two of the film’s actresses, Kathy Wu as Wai and Jet Tranter as Cassidy. For those of you who have been keeping up, Tranter was previously attached to star in the film in its previous iteration as Lady Bloodsport with a different cast line-up being prepped for plans to film late in 2013. For whatever reasons there were, however, evidently the production steered in a new direction and changes were made in lieu of the film’s European Film Market announcement at the top of 2014. Alas, with Tranter still attached, it will be interesting to see who will further line-up our combatants for this international female-centric action thriller.
Check out the pictures below!
From Voltage Pictures, Lady Bloodfight joins Wu and Tranter with Jenny Wu and lead actress Amy Johnston in the story of Jane, a traveling backpacker in Asia whose exceptional fighting skills are put to the test against hidden forces of evil within “The Kumite”, an all-female underground fight circuit. As earlier, more casting details are expected in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for more announcements!
Watch The Stylish New Teaser For Australian Martial Arts Feature, THE CHALLENGE LETTER
Not a lot of kung fu instructors take an interest in acting or screenfighting. As for those who do, it’s always appealing when you find that number of such people who are keen on expanding their craft to such a field, and impressively so. Such is the case with martial arts instructor Sifu Robert Chen of Chang Sing Tong Kung Fu Academy in Australia where he is now in the midst of his latest foray into feature length martial arts action with their current production, The Challenge Letter.
An untitled teaser released back in November prior to getting an official branded teaser as of earlier this month, and while the plot is unknown at this point in time, the footage itself is nothing short of amazing, scored with a great montage of Chinese, Japanese and Brazilian fighting styles among others likening a bit to tones similar to hits such as The Quest and Bloodsport. The film is also seemingly the first within an online resume of shorts and demos you will also find on the same channel with Chen showcasing some very solid work deserving of an upgrade to feature-length territory. Personally, I look forward to this one!
Chen also co-wrote and is co-directing the film with Nathan Colquhoun, with Shimamoto Nobuaki and Ingrid Yin Hu also starring. Watch the trailer below and enjoy the gallery of set pics just beneatj courtesy of Sifu Robert Chen!
AMC Martial Arts Drama Series, BADLANDS, Scores 'The Judge' Director
Tai Chi 0 helmer Stephen Fung’s recent departure from the upcoming remake of Kickboxer should provide plenty of time with fellow cohort Daniel Wu to executive produce their latest series endeavor tentatively titled Badlands for AMC. The two are joined by Oscar-nominated Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg, and series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar who were all announced for the project back in July, which while loosely based on late author Wu Cheng’en’s often film-translated late 16th century tale, “Journey To The West”, centers on a story of a great warrior and a young boy who trek across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.
That said, the series has now nabbed a director in the form of David Dobkin, best known for his work on the 2003 Jackie Chan headliner, Shanghai Knights, and this year’s buzzworthy court drama, The Judge. The series also has its first few young picks lining up the cast which so far includes 28 Weeks Later co-star Emily Beecham as “The Widow”, The Tudors co-star Sarah Bolger as “Jade”, and The Adventurer: The Curse Of The Midas Box co-star Oliver Stark as the warrior’s son, “Ryer”, all of which will be recurring roles for a series that is shaping up to present a spectacular story with a coming-of-age feel to it.
Sure, it’s early and we’re likely to learn there’s more in store for the series, but it is fun to speculate what the sub-plots will be under its references to classic Chinese folk lore. Other than that, Dobkin seems pretty stoked. “I am thrilled to be directing Badlands,” he said. “Aside from the amazing group of people I get to work with – everyone at AMC, plus Stacy and Michael, and Al and Miles for the second time – it’s a brilliant, visionary project that finally gives the fan-boy in me something to dig my teeth into.”
AMC Studios is producing the series with Entertainment One distributing the show globally.
Stick around.

Amr Waked On Netflix's MARCO POLO: "Lots Of Action, Sex, Politics & Nudity!"
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Amr Waked (Lucy) shared details about his character, as well as details about the diversity and scale of the cast and crew and production as a whole. “I think Netflix has made a very, very powerful production.” he says. “The value is immense, and the actors are so powerful, all of them, and each from a different part of the world. The amount of nationalities and languages spoken set was crazy – 26 nationalities and 30 languages, I think. I was very stimulated by the massiveness. The first thing that shocked me was the production value. I filmed in Kazakhstan and Malaysia. In Kazakshtan, it was in the middle of nowhere, in the mountains. We had to travel four hours from the airport to the hotel, and then two and a half hours to the location. It was very tough to film it.”
