VETERAN U.S. Remake In The Works!

I believe a sequel to Ryoo Seung-wan’s 2015 hit action comedy, Veteran, is still in toe, so I guess we’ll see what happens from there. In the meantime, you can rely on Variety’s Elsa Keslassy and Patrick Frater to gin up the chatter among Asian film fans as word of a remake makes the rounds as of Wednesday. According to the report, filmmaker Michael Mann will team up with the Korean and U.S. branches of CJENM to develop the project which had been brewing until the WGA strike earlier this year. There is no word yet on whether or not Mann himself will direct, while fans await further news on Mann’s current endeavors with a sequel to his 1995 hit crime drama, Heat. HEAT 2: Michael Mann Confirms Sequel To 1995 Hit Crime Thriller Will Be His Next Film

Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman is exclusively reporting confirmation of the long-awaited sequel to Michael Mann’s 1995 hit crime thriller, Heat, as of Friday. The filmmaker made the announcement at the news firm’s Contenders Event in London while currently campaigning his latest banner work, Ferrari, starring Adam Driver. The news comes six months after Warner Bros. Pictures gave public notice of its active development of a sequel, eyeing Driver for the role of professional thief Neil McCauley, previously played by Robert DeNiro in the first film. The character is revisited in the sequel novel which Mann penned alongside co-author Meg Gardiner and released in 2021. Heat was produced by Art Linson alongside Mann who wrote the pic, and starred Robert DeNiro as McCauley opposite Al Pacino as ex-Marine-cum-Los Angeles detective Vincent Hanna. Word via Deadline’s Justin Kroll on Monday came that a follow-up to Michael Mann’s epic 1995 crime thriller, Heat, is in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures. What’s more, actor Adam Driver (65) is in talks to star in the film as a young version of Neil McCauley with Mann in negotiations with the studio to direct, and with Arnon Milchan’s New Regency optioning to board the film when it “is in a good place to move forward”. Robert DeNiro played professional thief McCauley in the inaugural film opposite Al Pacino’s ex-marine now LA detective Vincent Hanna. Mann worked on the film for well over a decade before finally landing a project at WB with producer Art Linson, which became a box office hit and a landmark success for Mann’s filmography. In a nutshell, I’m pretty much of the opinion that director Michael Mann’s cyber-hacking thriller, Blackhat, deserved WAY more love than it got back in 2015. It was a great, suspenseful action thriller and a mark of someone who knows his way around constructing a good few hours of worthy cinema for your money. Needless to say, Blackhat won’t be the end for Mann and that pleases me. That said, I’m even more pleased that he’ll be seuging into another venture with his name attached for Michael Mann Books, in which he’ll be loading up on a slew of content with other authors in conjunction with presenting some of its literary products on the big screen.
