VETERAN U.S. Remake In The Works!
I believe a sequel to Ryoo Seung-wan’s 2015 hit action comedy, Veteran, is still in toe, so I guess we’ll see what happens from there. In the meantime, you can rely on Variety’s Elsa Keslassy and Patrick Frater to gin up the chatter among Asian film fans as word of a remake makes the rounds as of Wednesday.
According to the report, filmmaker Michael Mann will team up with the Korean and U.S. branches of CJENM to develop the project which had been brewing until the WGA strike earlier this year. There is no word yet on whether or not Mann himself will direct, while fans await further news on Mann’s current endeavors with a sequel to his 1995 hit crime drama, Heat.
Ryoo’s Veteran rejoined the director with his star of 2010’s crime thriller, The Unjust, casting Hwang Jung-min opposite Yoo Ah-in for an upbeat cop actioner about an incorrigible detective whose maverick methods put him on thin ice with the force. Our protagonist’s resolve is soon tested when a friend in financial turmoil is beaten and left comatose by the young heir of a mega-corporation with a penchant for greed and abusing his wealth and privilege.
Mann’s most recent flick, Ferrari, opens this Christmas from Neon.
