WE’RE NOTHING AT ALL: Blacklight Global Picks Up Herman Yau’s Award-Winning Drama For U.S. Rollout
Blacklight Global Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to director Herman Yau’s new drama, We’re Nothing At All. The label will host a series of special screenings and theatrical engagements starting in Los Angeles this Fall, including a West Coast Premiere at The Culver Theater on October 10.
Screen talents Patrick Tam, Anson Kong and Ansonbean headline the ripped-from-the-headlines pic which chronicles the harrowing circumstances leading up to a fiery double-decker bus explosion on Valentines’ Day, killing multiple passengers. Central to the story is Ho-Leung (Tam), an ex-detective brought back into the fold for his expertise in forensics to investigate the incident, and evidence pointing to a deliberate act by two of the victims: Fai (Kong) and Ike (Ansonbean), a gay couple from troubled backgrounds living on society’s margins.
As Ho-Leung pieces together the young men’s relationship and the circumstances that brought them to that fateful day, the details will reveal a story shaped by abuse, homophobia, social alienation and despair.
Yau, in addition to writing and directing, also self-financed the pic. Audiences gathered for the film’s world premiere at the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival where it won the Audience Choice Award, as well as the 25th edition of the New York Asian Film Festival for its North American Premiere.

Yau has directed more than 100 films over a career spanning four decades, with credits including The Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome, Shock Wave, The White Storm 2: Drug Lord, and Moscow Mission.
The deal was negotiated by Janice Leung on behalf of Blacklight Global Entertainment and Golden Scene Company Limited on behalf of the filmmakers.
