Wuershan’s MOJIN: THE LOST LEGEND Comes Home On May 3

Director Wuershan dazzled at the box office back in 2015 with the 80’s set action adventure comedy, Mojin: The Lost Legend. Based on a 2006 novel by Zhang Muye, the subject of searching for lost national treasures may have played a role in garnering the attention it did in China as well as the success drawn from its IMAX releases. At any rate, it became a box office success ultimately debuting second to J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is evidently opened up prospects for a sequel with word now circulating that Silent Witness helmer Fei Xing will direct next installment for a 2018 release pending. Screener Review: MOJIN: THE LOST LEGEND (2015)

It’s been somewhat of a season of “firsts” for me here and there, and such is the case with director Wuershan‘s newest film, Mojin: The Lost Legend. I don’t exactly know what the effect would have been if the production company simply left its original title, “The Ghouls”, although the new title makes sense and gives meaning to the story as it unfolds. The film focuses thematically on an age-old clandestine group of tomb raiders who once existed for the purpose of dig for treasure in order to feed China’s poor during wartime. Based on Zhang Muye’s novel “Ghost Blows Out The Light”, actor Chen Kun plays a discouraged former member of said group, the Mojin, alongside Huang Bo as they struggle to hustle on the streets of 1980’s New York. Formerly titled The Ghouls, director Wuershan‘s latest, Mojin: The Lost Legend has an official U.S. trailer out this week. You can pretty much guess where this adventure goes judging by its artwork or its initial teasers and trailers, and that’s not to take away from the spectacular visuals and scope we get in turn. Actress Shu Qi Goes Tomb Raider In The Latest Trailer For MOJIN: THE LOST LEGEND

The latest trailer for Wuershan’s Mojin: The Lost Legend is currently circulating online with tons of promise. Headlined with a stellar cast led by actress Shu Qi, the film encircles a story set in the 80’s about a former soldier, his partner, and an American archeologist who fall victim to a curse while infiltrating an ancient grave. IMAX Corporation unveiled a press release last week on October 14 announcing the film’s IMAX release and theatrical date which you may read about below, though I imagine this one is being groomed for a release overseas as well, in which case, let’s hope!
