Netflix Takes On CITY HUNTER With Ryohei Suzuki Starring In 2024

Netflix just released its first look at actor Ryohei Suzuki (Hentai Kamen 1 & 2, Tokyo MER franchise) in the title role of City Hunter. The live-action feature adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s hit manga is being directed by Yuichi Sato (Strawberry Nights, The End of the Tiny World), from a script by Tatsuro Mishima. Netflix describes the project as “a modern-day updated version of the manga, set in the bustling streets of Shinjuku. The streamer has set a 2024 target launch for the film. “When Ryo’s partner Makimura is killed,” the longline adds, “he and Makimura’s sister Kaori team up to find out the truth, thus forming a new duo.” The film hails from Netflix and Tokyo-based outlets Horipro and Office Shirous. It’s been about four years since Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights to adapt Kohei Horikoshi’s hit manga, My Hero Academia. The animated series from the studio, Bones, was in its fifth season, while the development of the movie up-ticked a bit with the attachment of filmmaker Shinsuke Sato to direct as of last year. Sato has since taken off with the release of his most recent manga adaptation, a sequel to 2019 Warring States epic, Kingdom, as of this summer, and a second season of his hit series, Alice In Borderland, opening later this month on Netlix. Salma Hayek Pinault is teaming up with Anne Hathaway for Seesaw Monster over at Netflix. The streamer announced on Tuesday that it acquired the rights to the book penned by Kotaro Isaka, the man behind the original work that inspired David Leitch’s Bullet Train adaptation over at Sony this summer. Netflix is further entrenching itself with some of Japan’s top creatives to bring stories to life with TBS Holdings Inc.’s live-action production brand, THE SEVEN, whose roster includes none other than Akira Morii who is a key name behind the production of several upcoming shows. Netflix just debuted the official trailer for Warriors Of Future, the latest from director Ng Yuen Fai and starring and produced by Louis Koo. The film was announced on Thursday as part of the streamer’s recent packaging of Chinese-language projects to arrive between now and next year, including four other dramas you can read about here. In 2055, a meteorite, which brings a fast-growing alien vine named “Pandora”, crashes down on a barren Earth ravaged by pollution and global warming. “Pandora” purifies the planet but kills everything in its path. To protect the citizens of their city, the heavily armored military of Hong Kong, armed with the plant’s genetic map, tries but fails to destroy “Pandora” and uncovers a conspiracy.
