James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind. Key words there being “newly imagined DC universe,” of course. Not everyone has taken kindly to the changing of the guard at Warner Bros. and DC Studios since the decade-long Snyderverse recapitulated last year. Nonetheless, change takes time to adapt to, and the past several days since the first poster debut for Superman indicate something a little more efficacious for Gunn’s pending comic book movie revival. To that end, the official teaser trailer is here as well, undoubtedly with more promo assets to come as Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios ready a July 11 theatrical release. The cast is led by David Corenswet who is the latest successor to the […]
The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay’s newest action horror comedy looks a lot like something I could get into with the official trailer for Renfield now making the rounds. Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage topline the fresh new inspired tale based on the work of Bram Stoker and opens on April 14 from Universal Pictures. In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency. McKay directs from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Ghosted series, […]
Open Road Films The past few years have been a bit peculiar for me in my own observation of the output of Welcome To The Punch helmer Eran Creevy’s Collide. The film tracked onto screens overseas in 2014 under a different title while Open Road Films eventually picked it up for release a year later. As such, fast forwarding and what have you after a delayed August 2016 release, a February 24, 2017 is now in tow for the high-speed action thriller starring Mad Max: Fury Road co-star Nicholas Hoult and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Felicity Jones as a couple caught in a cat-and-mouse game between two rival crime bosses. Frankly, the process of this film’s roll out feels like a rat race itself, but at least it’s getting the screen treatment it deserves. SYNOPSIS: After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein (Nicholas Hoult) finds himself […]
Shifty helmer Eran Creevy’s 2012 sophmore offering, British action flick Welcome To The Punch was a delight to catch. Thus, with his latest, Collide, the now inbound heist thriller looks to leave yet another impression for the British filmmaker with action fans, and with thesps like Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins commanding the screen all the same. SYNOPSIS: After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein (Nicholas Hoult) finds himself on the run from a ruthless gang headed by mob boss Hagen (Anthony Hopkins). Now Casey has precious cargo that belongs to Hagen, who will stop at nothing to retrieve it. Left with no choice, Casey calls his former employer and drug smuggler Geran (Ben Kingsley) to protect his long-time girlfriend Juliette before Hagen gets his hands on her. Casey sets out on an adrenaline-fueled car chase on the German highways to save the love of his life before it’s […]
Fifteen years in the making and with all other forthcoming developments aside, director Bryan Singer comes full circle for a film that will undoubtely ensue in the greatest battle our heroes have faced. The new trailer has officially arrived for X-Men: Apocalypse in the player below, (though leaked a few moments earlier on Friday) with a release set for Memorial Day – May 27, 2016 with actor Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-star Oscar Isaac in the title role as the imposing (and preferably lesser purple Ivan Ooze-looking) villain. SYNOPSIS: Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with […]
It’s been a while since I’ve seen any of the previous Mad Max films leading up to Mad Max: Fury Road. However, that didn’t stop me from catching the glory of director George Miller‘s return to the fray aside from this being my big screen introduction to the character, and needless to say, it’s nothing short of the wonderous, gruesome, brutally fantastic cinematic treat that any number of reviews will tell you this month. The film immediately reinvites you into the rebooted madness with a heavily-bearded Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) in the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland as he’s captured by the War Boys, a cult of bald albinos led by Immorten Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). While in captivity, Rockatansky soon ends up as a universal blood donor to one of the War Boys, Nux (Nicholas Hoult) who is eager to meet his destiny at the foot of Joe’s calling when Joe and […]
Director and co-writer George Miller may have taken sixteen years or so to finally manifest his vision for a fourth installment in the epic desert Mad Max saga, but the efforts have already been paying off. Tom Hardy takes the lead handed down from previous franchise actor Mel Gibson who headlined the first three movies up to Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1986), and despite some of the significant hinderances the film endured, early test screenings are drawing some pretty positive buzz, particularly from this weekend’s events at San Diego Comic Con with the first four character posters unveiled on Saturday. On Sunday, Mad Max: Fury Road finally gained more ground with the release of the official SDCC teaser, and clearly this latest installation is ready to deliver the same good old fashioned road raging mayhem, with all the trimmings and then some! SYNOPSIS: “MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth […]
