The film tracked onto screens overseas in 2014 under a different title while Open Road Films eventually picked it up for release a year later. My Two Cents: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (2015)
It’s been a while since I’ve seen any of the previous Mad Max films leading up to Mad Max: Fury Road. However, that didn’t stop me from catching the glory of director George Miller‘s return to the fray aside from this being my big screen introduction to the character, and needless to say, it’s nothing short of the wonderous, gruesome, brutally fantastic cinematic treat that any number of reviews will tell you this month. The film immediately reinvites you into the rebooted madness with a heavily-bearded Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) in the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland as he’s captured by the War Boys, a cult of bald albinos led by Immorten Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Director and co-writer George Miller may have taken sixteen years or so to finally manifest his vision for a fourth installment in the epic desert Mad Max saga, but the efforts have already been paying off. Tom Hardy takes the lead handed down from previous franchise actor Mel Gibson who headlined the first three movies up to Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1986), and despite some of the significant hinderances the film endured, early test screenings are drawing some pretty positive buzz, particularly from this weekend’s events at San Diego Comic Con with the first four character posters unveiled on Saturday.
