The Noble Classics: VOL. 4
Sha Po Lang – 4.5/5, A well-made movie with some good acting performances. There’s a decent amount of fighting in this one and Donnie looks great. His fights with Wu Jing and Sammo at the end are both high standard, particularly for the weaponry bash with the ruthless Wu Jing.

Subway Cinema/NYAFF Presents: OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FEST 2014!
The movie that cracked the genre in half, 36th Chamber is king of the kung fu films — everyone references it, everyone steals from it, but it still holds up today. LKL’s god-brother, Gordon Liu, plays a kid in Manchu-occupied China who gets his entire family killed by the Manchus because he is an idiot. With nowhere else to go, he flees to the Shaolin Temple, and begs them to train him for revenge. Training involves mastering 35 chambers, each teaching a different discipline, and as he conquers them one-by-one the Buddhist philosophy behind Shaolin kung fu opens his third eye to enlightenment. The training sequence is a stock martial arts movie setpiece, but in the hands of LKL it expands into an hour-long, genius-level, cinematic tone poem on how discipline, focus, commitment, and willpower can save you from yourself.
British Indie Action Film Group Begins Crowdfunding For 301 TROOP: ARAWN RISING
Actor, writer and filmmaker Lee Bennett is out with a new campaign this week to help fund a new trailer pitch for 301 Troop: Arawn Rising. The new crowdfunder comes in light of major buzz surrounding Bennett’s new UK-based British film production group titled Only The New Breed, a company devoted to delivering quality films that abide by old school standards long since abandoned thanks to the use of CGI and wires.
Only The New Breed is looking for as much help as they can from action fans throughout the United Kingdom to help bring their 301 Troop: Arawn Rising promotional trailer to life in time to shop it in the film festival circuit. They have a cast of actors more than equipped to deliver the goods. What they need most is £30,000 to make it happen. And that’s where you come in!
Check out their spectacular cast reel below, and if you live in the UK and you believe in keeping the action genre genuine, alive and well for another generation, donate to their Indiegogo campaign to lend your support.
