All roads point to Marvel Entertainment as the week commences with a raft of news, now ongoing with a second official trailer for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel.
While two seasons away from its release next year, it’s safe to say the first official trailer for the new third-phase MCU outing, Captain Marvel, has gained a foothold. We’re surely a ways from any other female-led Marvel properties other than what lies ahead for actress Brie Larson’s upcoming debut as Captain Marvel. For now, production is underway and New York Post’s Page Six column entry from Bryan Hood now reveals an exclusive first look at the film’s star with a slate of seven set photos now online; What you see above is a sampled crop of Larson in costume from the tweeted article which you can check out in full at PageSix.com.
Mississippi Grind‘s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are helming the film for its March 2019 release from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (upcoming Tomb Raider and Gotham City Sirens), Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy). The 1990’s-set story sees Larson as Carol Danvers, the ill-gotten US Air Force Security Chief who becomes the title heroine following a near-fatal explosion involving alien DNA.
The Oscar-winning actress is bringing her best superhero game for the film’s March 8, 2019 open, marking one of at least two appearances in Marvel and Disney’s MCU. Samuel L. Jackson will also star as a younger incarnation of Nick Fury, sans eyepatch with actress DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), and actord Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, Ready Player One) and Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes).
With Marvel Studios’s Captain Marvel adapation still two years out from its release, the upcoming phase three adaptation is still taking shape with actress Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) having been cast as of last July. Thankfully, word now, via Variety, writes that the film has found its directors in the form of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind, Showtime series The Affair and Billions) who’ve been in talks with Marvel execs for the last few weeks before being offered the movie last week.
The character itself bares numerous versions but will focus solely on the Carol Danvers iterarion based on her 1968 launch from creators Roy Thomas and Gene Colan, telling of an airforce pilot who awakens with superhuman powers and strength after surviving a deadly explosion involving weaponry that fuses her DNA with that of an alien. Guardians Of The Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman & and Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve are behind the script with Kevin Feige producing for its March 8, 2019 release.
