Actor and action star Johnny Tri Nguyen (Da 5 Bloods) is still working in movies, though – and in my view – he’s less prolific than he should be at this stage long since landing hard and heavy fourteen years ago with a lead role in Charlie Nguyen’s The Rebel, and following suit with Thai thriller Power Kids, and Le Thanh Son’s Clash; I know for me the most fascinating turning point was when his 2013 gangster thriller, Cho Lon, got kiboshed by Vietnamese censors, only to end up leaked on the internet in its raw, unfinished form. I promise, I’m a better writer than I am an orator. However, if you have an hour to expend and wanna hear me giggle my ass off while struggling to put words into viable sentences to discuss movies, fandom and the new Scott Adkins action comedy sci-fi, Max Cloud, the latest episode over at Adkins Undisputed is where it’s at. The show is hosted by Michael Scott who previously expressed his views in a piece for our site about Koichi Sakamoto’s 2009 action thriller, Broken Path. Michael and I discuss the film, fandom, and even weigh in a bit on social issues – namely LGBTQ rights. It’s an interesting segway you’ll hear somewhere in there, and I welcome you to listen for yourselves. Next to my episode over at The Movie Dojo this year, this was equally exciting to partake in. Anyone who’s endulged in sci-fi fandom in the last sixty or seventy years will be able to construe what director Martin Owen goes for with his latest endeavor, Max Cloud. The first look stills of the past year were enough to lend something of an idea as to the aesthetic, and the headlining addition of actor Scott Adkins does lend something to look forward to. Certainly, it’s a different kind of film for the relatively well-known martial arts star famously known for his more brooding performances in the Undisputed franchise and Jesse Johnson’s Avengement among other hits. Max Cloud reteams Owen with actress Sally Collet (Twist) who also co-stars, and with whom Owen penned the script. Readying what looks to be a December 18 select theatrical and on-demand release from Well Go USA, the official U.S. trailer is now streaming online for action adventure sci-fi, Max Cloud. Martin Owen (Killers Anonymous) directs from a script he co-wrote with Sally Collett, for a cast led by actress Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables, Killers Anonymous), and starring actor and martial artist Scott Adkins (Ip Man: The Finale) in the title role for his latest turn at comedy as well. When teen gamer Sarah finds an “easter egg” and accidentally opens a portal into her favorite side-scroller, she becomes trapped in a notorious intergalactic prison, home to the galaxy’s most dangerous villains. To escape, she must finish the game with a little help from her not-so-savvy friend on the outside…or remain a 16-bit character forever. Killers Anonymous and Twist helmer Martin Owen’s action-packed sci-fi comedy, Max Cloud, has been acquired by Well Go USA for North American distribution this December on digital and on-demand. Tickets are now on sale at 36 Cinema for a livestreamed event of Sammo Hung’s 1985 film, My Lucky Stars. The event, presented in association with the Made In Hong Kong Film Festival which held its 25th annual event last month, will be hosted this Friday by actor Scott Adkins with a live, interactive commentary where fans will also be able to ask questions during the film.
