Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù will reprise his role in the hit series.
A reunion for Gareth Huw Evans and “Gangs Of London” lead Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù feels appropriate at this stage. That show was a hit for which Evans was exec producer for its run and now the two have since reunited for Evans’s latest directorial effort in the UK with a remake of Takashi Nomura’s 1967 yakuza crime flick, A Colt Is My Passport. The project, hailing from Amazon MGM Studios and Orion Pictures, was announced earlier this summer and, according to Andreas Wiseman’s Deadline exclusive on Tuesday, has since wrapped production in the UK. A cast has also been announced as well with Dìrísù leading the roster that lists Tim Roth, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, Victor Alli, Ewan Mitchell, Burn Gorman, and Noah Taylor. Evans also rejoins Chris Webb, a member of the stunt unit on Evans’s Netflix releases, Havoc and Apostle, whose script is set in 1978 Detroit and centers […]
Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Joe Cole are back to reprise their roles along with a slate of new additions, including “Warrior,” and “Boy Kills World” actor Andrew Koji!
The second season of Gangs Of London is almost here (for folks in the UK, it’s much closer as it’s arriving on October 20th), and Sky is back in the headlines to remind you just what it is you’ll be in for as the producers look to ante up the goods since the explosive, dramatic and brutal first season. How? Welp, leave it to a red-band trailer with none other than series regular Michelle Fairley to invite any and all spying an eye on their social media feeds for a fairly violent, rollicking and bloody introduction to the chaos and anarchy that awaits. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù is back to reprise his role as well, and he signals his return in fine, fight-heavy form! One year after the death of Sean Wallace and the violent reckonings of series one, the map and soul of London has been redrawn. The surviving Wallaces are […]
Figures as much that actor Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù would now be the face of the new hit crime series, Gangs Of London, following its explosive premiere a few years ago. Recent teasers and announcements have otherwise hinted at the departure of the key season, one lead played by Joe Cole, and with Dìrísù at the forefront, it looks like things are about to get even more interesting… And by that, I mean brutally and punishingly violent! One year after the death of Sean Wallace and the violent reckonings of series one, the map and soul of London has been redrawn. The surviving Wallaces are scattered, the Dumanis broken and estranged, and ex-undercover cop Elliot is now being forced to work for the investors. To restore order, the investors have aligned behind heroin baron Asif Afridi and together they have installed a new ruling force in London in the form of brutal […]
One of the best gifts to have ever come from the first season of hit series, Gangs Of London, was seeing actor Sope Dìrísù take the mantle as an undercover cop weaving his way into the violent and brutal UK underworld opposite lead actor Joe Cole. It’s a milestone performance that I look forward to spotting in season two as Dìrísù keeps up the habit, and that interest now extends even further in the wake of Tom Grater’s latest Deadline exclusive on revenge thriller, Uncle. After the brutal murder of their family, barely teenage Millie and her uncle John (Dìrísù) embark on a brutal mission of revenge and retribution. But as they get closer to the people responsible, Millie must decide if she is ready to follow the bloody path of vengeance… and its violent, premature journey into adulthood. Casting is currently underway for the role of Millie, according to […]
Aside from all the other names and minds brought onto help bring Sky’s latest crime series to life, Gangs Of London, it’s those of co-creators, filmmaker Gareth Huw Evans and noted cinematographer Matt Flannery who stand out the most. Being accredited for developing a film franchise with a world that exudes intrigue, suspense and heightened levels of action and gruesome horror would certainly do the trick, as it has for both veterans of Indonesian action in the last ten years with The Raid and The Raid 2. With the apparent denoument of their tenure in Indonesia, and no real iota as to what the prospects were, the announcement of a British gangster series that brought both action auteurs on board, along with Corin Hardy and Xavier Gens, to say the least, drew promise. As an original show with high-end demands for action to incorporate with the world-building drama, it also […]
Unless you’re in the U.S. with a means of bypassing Cinemax’s television broadcast domain for U.K. crime series, Gangs Of London, chances are you’re twittling your thumbs in about as much excitement as I am. The series, which is led by Joe Cole and Sope Dirisu, has drawn significant buzz since its Sky debut in April with hopes for a second season, and all by celebrated action auteur Gareth Huw Evans and the company he’s kept on this show. At present Dazzler Media is proudly flying the flag with a Blu-ray, DVD & Digital release beginning July 27. As the rest of the presser details: “…Fresh from stunning TV audiences, it will take viewers back for an immersive journey into the hidden heart of the capital, with brand new extras.” Created by visionary, award-winning filmmakers, Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery of The Raid film franchise, the series stars a multi-talented […]
If there is ever a filmmaker who knows how to flesh out the best from a multilayered crime thriller, you can bet it’s Gareth Evans whose handling of The Raid films also showed multiple degrees of brutality against flesh with fight scenes that weren’t afraid to stain everything in the room red. Having recently helmed Netflix’s Apostle you can especially adhere to that fact, while Evans moves onward to the playing field of TV with upcoming contemporary minidrama, Gangs Of London. With the 10-part series now filming, trade news casting announcements are now leading off with Joe Cole, BIFA Best Actor winning star of prison Muay Thai drama, A Prayer Before Dawn, and with The Huntsman: Winter’s War actor Sope Dirisu. via THR: Set in one of the world’s most dynamic, multicultural cities — one that is torn by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it […]
