Distribution Workshop is on hand at the Marche du Film repping world sales on A Legend, the latest $50M sequel fervor reuniting director Stanley Tong with actor Jackie Chan. Bits of news from around the web have all but confirmed its existence with set photos currently circulating, while news out of Cannes sorts of officiates things, in addition to key sales art which you can view at the bottom.
I love that some people can handle a good headbutt a little more than others in Stanley Tong’s latest, Vanguard. It’s a nifty little point of humor amid what looks to be an explosive action thriller that amps up the stunt caliber just enough to make Jackie Chan and the cast look good without anyone getting seriously injured.
According to Jackie Chan France after sifting through mixed reports, the actor and action star is moving forward with director Stanley Tong once again for their latest pairing, Vanguard. The report forwarded the photo you see just above with Chan joined by the JC Stunt Team, along with young comedian Yang Yang, and Chan’s co-star for Tong’s KungFu Yoga, actress Miya Muqi.

Jack (Jackie Chan), a world-renowned archaeology professor, and his team set out on a grand quest to locate the lost ancient Indian treasure of Magadha when they are ambushed by a team of mercenaries and left for dead. Using his vast knowledge of history and kung fu, Jack leads his team on a race around the world to beat the mercenaries to the treasure and prevent an ancient culture from being lost forever.
Oscar-winning action royalty Jackie Chan’s workload throughout last year is certain to keep the aged-yet-nimble and active auteur on our radar a bit in 2017. The latest example of this is best highlit by his recent pairing with director Stanely Tong following their work on films like Rumble In The Bronx and The Myth, and for this, we get Kung Fu Yoga which bodes as another similarly CZ12-ish globetrotter with lush scenery, epic views, and of course, the usual dose of action and comedy crazy signature of Chan filmlore.
SYNOPSIS:
Chinese archeology professor Jack teams up with beautiful Indian professor Ashmita and assistant Kyra to locate lost Magadha treasure. In a Tibetan ice cave, they find the remains of the royal army that had vanished together with the treasure, only to be ambushed by Randall, the descendent of a rebel army leader. When they free themselves, their next stop is Dubai where a diamond from the ice cave is to be auctioned. After a series of double-crosses and revelations about their past, Jack and his team travel to a mountain temple in India, using the diamond as a key to unlock the real treasure.
Coming off of Chan’s Railroad Tigers, this one looks more amply keen on much more stylistic action which should service fans well. This, and we get actor Sonu Sood punching his way in for screentime as the key villain to add to the peril – car chases and wild animals and such…not to mention a lion that simply can’t even.

Got a formula? Stick to it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Certainly this is how action star Jackie Chan and many of his fans may feel about his movies and I can certainly understand. That said, I can’t really say I’m surprised and impressed anymore by a lot of what I see, except for whatever stands out the most in a trailer for any Jackie Chan film.
Manga creator and author Hoji Tsukasa’s popular 1985 Weekly Shonen Jump publication, City Hunter, remained prominent in the years that followed, from print to anime, live-action TV and film. Perhaps most prolific iteration might be director Wong Jing’s 1993 full-scale spectacle fronted by action star Jackie Chan, one prone to many a viral video snippet of the star in a Chun Li outfit in the past decade in case you’re reading this and your memory starts jogging.
The property still lives on these days, and so now it appears that Hong Kong director Stanley Tong will lead the charge for a new live-action film. Huang Xioaming (The White-Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdom, Hollywood Adventures) is the first to be added to the cast, nabbed for the starring role of Saeba Ryo, a skilled gunman with a penchant for the ladies and helps solve dangerous problems through his private detective agency.
Further casting details are pending with the film’s current development while Tong and co. are plotting a course for a December 2018 release date.

Certainly, martial arts and yoga share distinct similarities in fitness and philosophy aside from what makes the two stand out. But then again, it may have been only a matter of time before someone decided to come along to present an authentic feature film that ultimately dabbles with both systems of exercise. The question, of course, is how this will be done?

Well, leave it to the productive results of a newly establiahed film co-production deal between India and China back in September which now brings word that international action superstar Jackie Chan, far and away from any hint at retirement and now boarding the new action comedy, Kung Fu Yoga. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter via City On Fire, Viacom18 Motion Pictures India has signed a letter of intent stating the goal for the next three months to finalize the details of the film with China’s Taihe Entertainment and Shinework Media. Chan will reunite with Hong Kong veteran and director Stanley Tong whose resumé with the actor notably boasts Chan‘s crossover smash hit, Rumble In The Bronx prior to Police Story 3: Supercop, Jackie Chan’s First Strike and the 2005 period actioner, The Myth.
With a probable production slate for next year, Chan already has two projects on the way, including the February 19, 2015 IMAX 3D and 2D release of Daniel Lee’s Dragon Blade, and the upcoming international action caper, Skiptrace, with pending updates on Civilian, The Karate Kid 2 and Chinese Zodiac 2. In the meantime, with the popularity of martial arts action in India as it is, Kung Fu Yoga will likely bring fans closer to enlightenment. Meditate on that until further notice!
