Not everyone has taken kindly to the changing of the guard at Warner Bros. and DC Studios since the decade-long Snyderverse recapitulated last year. The biggest divide among comic fans is the age old “DC Vs Marvel” debate. This feud – I never quite understood it. If you like comics, then why does the publisher matter? Sports fans and comic geeks aren’t so different as they fight over which “team” is better. I am going to break down this long lived feud from my perspective using something I know about, film! It’s impossible to avoid comic book movies these days with several coming out a year; that being said, I’m going to split this up into several posts. Let’s call this first one the BB Age or Before Blade. Yes, that’s right; I credit Blade as kicking it off, and not X-Men. Ignoring the serials and TV pilots, the first real comic book film was made by DC. Superman I, II, & III – 1978, 1980, and 1983 My Opinion – I: Good for […]
I have a problem with invulnerable heroes. And I prefer Batman to Superman. Let’s go ahead and get that out of the way. My reason, on the surface, is a simple one. But when we lay it out on the table, it’s much more existentially complex. The knowledge that a character can be harmed bears a direct relationship to how compelling their battles are. And even though we know, like in the case of Batman, that the hero likely will not die during the proceedings of the story, the foundation of their heroics can be measured by the quality of their risks. Put another way, we know they won’t die but we never question whether they can die, or whether they can be harmed in the process of not dying. On the other hand, a hero that does not risk much, let alone his or her mortality, to do what […]
According to prior statements made by Man Of Steel star Henry Cavill, a Justice League would not be likely to happen soon unless other films were done to help create the universe to fit the characters. This was particularly the case with The Avengers as it had 2 Iron Man movies, 2 Hulk movies, and initial film installments of Captain America and Thor, both with sequels pending, and largely why The Avengers continues to be so successful. Also, interestingly enough, with Christian Bale retiring the Batsuit with The Dark Knight trilogy helmer Christopher Nolan‘s involvment with the sequel previously unknown at the time, there has also been talk of the next Batman film following the Batman Beyond story seperate from the Batman Nolanverse. I gotta say, it sounds like a lot of hype with people throwing out a lot of possibilities for the future of the character. Truth be told […]
Man Of Steel and Thor: The Dark World will see their respective releases in June and November this year. And it may take a while to see many of these superheroes merge together on the big screen. In the meantine, leave it to director/producer Aaron Schoenke, and producers Sean Schoenke and Nikolay Zamkovoy, and actors Colin Bryant and Joshua Boultinghouse starring as the God Of Thunder and the Son of Krypton to bring you the latest installation of Super Power Beat Down in Superman vs. Thor. Bat In The Sun has been putting in their effort in bringing a lot of video game and comic-book characters to life in pure fan-driven, fantasy action fashion. Characters ranging from properties like Capcom, Dark Horse, Marvel, DC Comics, Naughty Dog, AMC, Ubisoft and Lucasfilm.
