STRIKING RESCUE stars Tony Jaa, Chen Duoyi, Hong Junjia, Shi Yanneng, and more. A WELL GO USA Release!
The martial arts trilogy will be directed by Yuthlert Sippapak, who will also produce and finance in the collaborative effort with China’s Stars Collective.
Striking Rescue opens in select theaters on December 6 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Thai action star Tony Jaa continues to grow his cinematic workspace. Reasonably, this sort of feat might have seemed far from reachable in the earlier years of Jaa’s progression as a stuntman and a burgeoning film actor, at least until the breakout success of 2003’s Ong Bak with Jaa lending his success to trademark bone-crushing Muay Thai fight action, and stunt feats the likes of which have all but grabbed firmly the attention of action fans eyeing the same high caliber showmanship seen in Jackie Chan films. To add, Jaa’s image also garnered more of an upright appeal in the roles he played, something that even remained inescapable with his villainous turn in James Wan’s Furious Seven. For what it’s worth, that changes a little bit more this time with his most recent role showing us […]
After his wife and daughter are killed by assassins affiliated with a brutal organized crime syndicate, a Muay Thai fighter (Tony Jaa) goes on a furious rampage through the city on his quest to hunt down the killers—and make them pay. Invariably this is the stage now set for Striking Rescue, the newest from featured actor Tony Jaa whose action star acclaim gets another stake in the mainland following recent spells with titles like Detective Chinatown 3 and Kill Zone 2. The film also rejoins Jaa with the Planos-based Well Go USA in Texas who also released Kill Zone 2, as well as other Jaa-starrers S.P.L.: Paradox, and Jesse V. Johnson’s Triple Threat. Striking Rescue also stars Hong Junjia, Shi Yanneng, Philip Keung, and Chen Duoyi. Catch the official trailer below ahead of the film’s December 6 release!
Chinese actioner Striking Rescue is getting a theatrical release in the U.S. from Well Go USA. The Youku-produced actioner releases in the mainland through streaming service Youku this week featuring global martial arts star Tony Jaa. Directed by Cheng Siyi, the action revenge movie follows An Bai (Jaa), a veteran Muay Thai expert who goes on a take-no-prisoners mission of revenge after his wife and daughter are brutally murdered by mysterious forces. THR‘s Patrick Brzeski notes the film is the first in an effort for Youku’s planned expansion into theatrical releases for international markets. The film also stars Shi Yanneng, Hong Junjia, Chen Duoyi, Philip Keung, and more. Check out the most recent promo below thanks to a reupload from user @shaolinjaa:
Tony Jaa is taking China’s Youku streaming app to task with the November 8 release of Striking Rescue. Desperado helmer Cheng Siyi directs the international action star for the story of a harrowing descent into the criminal for a Muay Thai master out for vengeance after witnessing the brutal murders of his wife and daughter. The film also stars Shi Yanneng, Hong Junjia, Phillip Keung, and Chen Duoyi. I reckon it’ll be about a year before this finds some space in the U.S. – namely Well Go USA’s Hi-YAH! streamer where Asian action titles like these are well suited for presentation. In the meantime, peep the latest promo below. Hat tip to @thatphatsamuraiguy for the heads up!
The Eternals and Train To Busan actor Don Lee confirmed the development of Non Stop, a new action film whose existence went viral with the release of a concept poster late last year. The following quote comes via Variety’s Patrick Frater who interviewed Lee as his latest film, The Roundup: Punishment, is set to screen at the Berlinale. “I still have a project left for Marvel. Also ‘The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil,’ which I’m remaking with Sylvester Stallone. And then I’m getting ready for something called ‘Non Stop,’ which is an actual franchise where Asian martial art actors [‘The Raid’ star] Iko Uwais, [‘Ong Bak’ star Tony Jaa] and Jet Li – get together in one movie,” says Lee. The poster began making the rounds on Instagram and in news sites overseas in the Southeast. Actor Lee shared it on his Instagram page in December while Jaa later shared […]
It’s been a bit of a somber weekend for me, but social media reminders nudged me a bit to get on here to pay some respects to another beloved action star many like me have been fond of for about twenty years now: Tony Jaa. We’re only a few years into the new millennium and in the years since Hollywood’s embrace of Hong Kong’s best into its mainstream after crossing over multiple titles in theaters and on home video and eventually DVD, little did martial arts action fans know that it wouldn’t be long before Jaa would flying knee his way into our hearts with style in the incredible Ong Bak. The trailer itself, selling big on the moves, the stunts, and with Jaa front and center as a new leading face of action cinema for Western audiences, would add Jaa’s name to the incredible cadre of martial arts action […]

It’s been several years since the announcement of a third chapter in the Sha Po Lang crime saga with S.P.L.: War Needs Lord. At least tentatively though, the closest we have here is Wilson Yip’s 2017 neo-noir action crime thriller, Paradox, billed as more of a tangible side story apart from the two previous installments, S.P.L., and S.P.L. 2: A Time For Consequences. Casting Louis Koo for the role of Lee, a dauntless Hong Kong cop on a mission to search for his missing daughter in the Thai city of Pattaya, the film also stars Wu Yue, Gordon Lam, Tony Jaa and Chris Collins along with Hanna Chan, Vitthaya Pansringarm and Ken Lo, with a script by Jill Leung and Nick Cheuk. Much like its two predecessors, the non-canonical Paradox takes its inspiration from the the three stars of Chinese astrology. Koo is in fine form as Lee, an imperfect […]
Best known for reimagining 1989’s Kickboxer with two storied back-to-back reboots, filmmaker Dimitri Logothetis segways into the comic book genre for the first time, adapting Acme Rocket Fuel’s in-house IP, Jiu Jitsu. Teeming with action-heavy talent per usual, the film rejoins Logothetis with Kickboxer Vengeance and Kickboxer Retaliation star Alain Moussi, having since escalated from stunt performance to achieving leading man status for the martial arts niche. It’s not too long before the film’s biggest players join the fray setting our story in Burma, namely Nicolas Cage who appears briefly in one of the film’s opening moments following an eruptive chase sequence opener that leaves Moussi’s character injured, unconscious, and floating in the water. Pulled to safety by a farm couple and escorted to a nearby Army base, our protagonist is treated, and sooner interrogated by Army intel officer Myra (Marie Avgeropoulos) who tries to mitigate whether or not she […]

Going two-for-two this week following the trailer premiere for Jiu Jitsu is actor and martial arts star Tony Jaa, at long last getting in some monster-huntin’ screentime with actress Milla Jovovich who leads the way in Paul W.S. Behind our world, there is another: A world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Lt. Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious […]
