Things are boding well for Sony and all things Spider-Man. Their latest take on the villainous Venom is now shaping up for the solid start of a trilogy which could well veer into Spidey territory as things move forward. Alas, the studio is finally unveiling an official teaser and comic book fans are already reeling, and not for nothing. Indeed Tom Hardy stands to gain quite a bit from his incarnation of Eddie Brock and the footage amply dispels that mystery accordingly…sans costume that is, but we do get a good visual of the very symbiote the Marvel property is based on as well as that of Michelle Williams which hints further that our titular anti-hero might not be alone in donning the symbiotic alien armor. Sure to abstain from Tom Holland’s current reign as Marvel hero “Spider-Man”, director Reuben Fleischer has since taken the mantle for Sony’s latest dark superhero pivot, Venom, based on the aforementioned property and currently spinning off with its own film adaptation. Sony Pictures landed its latest trailers just on Wednesday landing heavily on its campaign with less than a month and a half to go before its release of Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland. I suppose that doesn’t mean Sony is dropping the ball as active as they have shown themselves for the fledgling Marvel reboot that has since brought forth its own cinematic Spiderverse into the headlines with talk of an R-rated Venom and a female-driven adventure within the same universe. VENOM Casts Tom Hardy, Reuben Fleischer To Direct For Sony

Sony Pictures took to social media on Friday to announce its choice in actor Tom Hardy for the title role of the upcoming franchise reboot, Venom. Reuben Fleischer will direct the film from a script by Scott Rosenberg and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scribe Jeff Pinkner and with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal. The news comes following the film’s announcement back in March in wake of plans to reboot Marvel property Spider-Man now in affect with Jon Watts’s forthcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland, and adaptations of Black Cat and Silver Sable also in the works. Fleischer’s addition replaces The Mummy helmer Alex Kurtzman who was originally tapped to helm. It’s been ten years since Marvel villain, Venom, went toe-to-toe with Spider-Man in a movie. Spin-off efforts then underwent a series of gymnastic developments while in limbo and needless to say I won’t get too much into the convoluted history that occurs thereafter. That said, about a year after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it was finally announced that Marvel would help Sony get itself together with this particular IP in lieu of everything happening with the MCU leading up to Avengers: Infinity War. Does this mean Venom will appear in the MCU eventually as well? Marvel, Sony To Reboot Spider-Man Through Phase Three By 2017

A lot happened last year that former Sony co-chairwoman Amy Pascal probably wish didn’t. Words were said, things were leaked, drama ensued, and I had already long before given up on keeping up all of Sony’s Spider-related business because of so many moving pieces (i.e., the previously remaining release dates of the Andrew Garfield Spidey quadrilogy, Drew Goddard’s earlier plans for The Sinister Six and Venom, plans a female-centric Spidey film, etc.) It’s been cray-cray (you read that right), and likely a little more so with the morbitidy among fans regarding dimmed hopes that your friendly neighborhood wall-crawling, web-flinging superhero would ever see his way into the Marvel Universe what with all its grand plans between now and 2020. It’s official, folks. The award for waaaay too many trailers and TV spots has to go to director Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I have to say, it’s been an adventure trying to keep up with the promotional campaign for this one, and I don’t even think I was able to share the latest official trailer for it. So, I’m more at ease knowing that this film is on its last legs of promotion after just debuting in Europe before its North American release on May 2. Needless to say however, with an action packed X-Men mid-credits nod, in addition to Black Cat’s possible inclusion in Drew Goddard’s The Sinister Six, the production of Venom and all other Spidey related projects to remain on-going for another several years, we’re far from done with this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
