Leave it to a surprise in my DMs to find out that Kensuke Sonomura has been keeping more than busy aside from his dealings over in Bad City and with the Baby Assassins franchise and Kenji Tanigaki’s upcoming The Furious. Monday morning over in Japan saw the first teaser trailer revealed for Ghost Killer, something I only wish I knew about sooner with this also being the latest co-production between Well Go USA Entertainment and Rights Cube. What?! Now how’s that for a partnership? What’s more is that Sonomura’s Ghost Killer marks the latest graduating lead role for actress Akari Takaishi who takes the reins alongside actor Masanori Mimoto who continues to be a fixture in Sonomura’s work since 2019’s Hydra. It’ll be a while before we learn more on the future endeavors of Soi Cheang’s Twilight Of The Warriors franchise after Cannes. In the meantime, the first movie, Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In, is already slated for releases after commercial screenings in the U.K., as wel Hong Kong and China where its become a box office hit. The movie is also part of this year’s NYAFF line-up, after which its U.S. theatrical run will kick off on August 9 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Just shortly after announcing a July 5 release in the states, Well Go USA is keying folks in with a look at the official trailer for director Lee Jong-pil’s new survival thriller, Escape. Koo Kyo-hwan, Lee Je-hoon, and Hong Xa-bin star in the pic which also releases a few days earlier in South Korea from Megabox Plus M. After completing his required decade of military service and being honored as a hero, a North Korean sergeant makes a sudden shocking attempt to defect to the South, risking life and limb for the chance to finally determine his own destiny. Well Go USA Entertainment announced a double header of home releases on Thursday. First up is Liu Xiaoshi’s aviation actioner, Born To Fly, starring Wang Yibo (Hidden Blade), Hu Jun (Shadow, Code of the Assassins), and Yu Shi (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms), with Zhou Dongyu (Better Days). The film charts the endeavors of a group of talented test pilots tasked with high-level training and the improvement of China’s stealth fighters for the men on the frontlines. The second is Polar Rescue which screened last year at the first-ever Big Bad Film Fest action film festival in Los Angeles. It stars Donnie Yen (Sakra, John Wick: Chapter 4) whose recent exploits have since found him headlining the big screen remake of classic TV property, Kung Fu.
