The hit indie martial arts fantasy webseries gets a feature-length sequel later this year.
Indie production label Whirlwind Action has been a bookmark for me long before I started writing this platform twelve years ago. I’ve proudly covered their work ever since with in-house director and performer Micah Brock then cranking out the finale to his hit weberies series, Slug Street Scrappers, in 2013, before releasing in the summer a year later. Brock had plans over the years for other projects as well, but only recently took to his latest endeavor, Slug Street Scrappers: Regen, initially billed as a new series continuing the original. That was in 2022, and Brock has since evolved his earlier vision into feature film fruition with post-production underway, as well as a new Indiegogo campaign to keep the movie afloat. The first several installments of Slug Street Scrappers headlined a bevy of then-burgeoning indie action and stunt talent under the stewardship of Brock and series cohort Shaun Charney. Such […]
A new prelim teaser trailer is now online for Slug Street Scrappers: Regen, the long-awaited second season of the inaugural Slug Street Scrappers web-video series from actor, martial artist and filmmaker Micah Brock. Co-star and creative partner Shaun Charney is reteaming with Brock to bring the second season to life with a current cast that bares a mix of both new and familiar faces in the roster. A collaborative effort between Brock’s Whirlwind Action and Charney’s Dragon Phoenix Entertainment labels, the first season of Slug Street Scrappers is currently available in four parts, and takes its inspiration from hit 2003 action adventure Ong Bak, as well as anime and both 1v1 and side-scrolling fighting game fanfare the 80s and 90s. It chronicles the interwoven drama between a cadre of badass fighters, all competing in a street tournament to claim the coveted title of “toughest in town”. Brock plays Bruiser Bom-Bash, […]

Today is the day indie martial arts cinema fans and internet viewers finally get to see the release of stunt actor and filmmaker Micah Brock’s webseries feature-length finale, Slug Street Scrappers 3: Beat Em’ Up, from Whirlwind Action and Dragon Phoenix Entertainment. The webseries, which began production in 2010, pays ohmage to classic Beat Em’ Up fighting games of the late 80s and early-mid 90s, blending tributes to games such as Streets Of Rage & Tekken with a touch of Ong Bak-stylized fight choreography. The story itself take place in the fictional town of Scrappertown, where participants engage in an urban street tournament to compete for the ultimate title of “The Toughest In Town” under the watchful eyes of the mysterious sensei known only as “The Revered One”. But underneath it all, each character has their own motives and story arcs that further bring the trilogy full circle, with amazing […]
