SLUG STREET SCRAPPERS: REGEN: Micah Brock Respawns Hit Webseries For A Second Season
A new prelim teaser trailer is now online for Slug Street Scrappers: Regen, the long-awaited second season of the inaugural Slug Street Scrappers web-video series from actor, martial artist and filmmaker Micah Brock. Co-star and creative partner Shaun Charney is reteaming with Brock to bring the second season to life with a current cast that bares a mix of both new and familiar faces in the roster.
A collaborative effort between Brock’s Whirlwind Action and Charney’s Dragon Phoenix Entertainment labels, the first season of Slug Street Scrappers is currently available in four parts, and takes its inspiration from hit 2003 action adventure Ong Bak, as well as anime and both 1v1 and side-scrolling fighting game fanfare the 80s and 90s. It chronicles the interwoven drama between a cadre of badass fighters, all competing in a street tournament to claim the coveted title of “toughest in town”. Brock plays Bruiser Bom-Bash, the well-known and well-loathed title holder who finds himself at the center of the tournament’s dark and deadly conspiracy by its fourth episode.
The series is also home to a number of working stunt performers to this day, including actors Andy and Brian Le who’ve found their footing in some of the biggest mainline television and film work of the last two years, including and not limited to Bao Tran’s The Paper Tigers and the Daniels’ celebrated Michelle Yeoh headliner, A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once. Season one of Slug Street Scrappers officially ended in the summer of 2013, with no information at the time about when the webseries would once again see the light of day.
Brock’s posterity as a staple of online martial arts action film fandom dates back a little further in the early 2000s, as the forums became ripe with content from burgeoning creatives and teams hungry to revive old school Hong Kong action fanfare for the new millenium. Those teams and banners partly included Zero Gravity, Jabronie Pictures, The Stunt People, VJ Films, LBP Stunts Chicago, Dardrex Productions, Rising Tiger Films and Eclipse Stunts, as well as Whirlwind to name some – all emerging in a pre-YouTube era of the internet to upload their content. It’s certainly a movement that’s paid off for a number of these wunderkinds over the years, with Brock now resurfacing from his long hiatus and back into the fold for more stories of Bruiser Bom-Bash to come.
Updates on the series can be found both on the show’s YouTube channel, as well as on Instagram where folks can tune in when crowdfunding launches. In the meantime, peep the trailer announcement atop the page, and check out the action-packed trailer for the original series in player below. The show was also re-edited into nine episodes (each roughly 18-23 minutes) and revised in 4K, and can be viewed in this playlist.
