LIPS LIKE SUGAR Sets Woody Harrelson And Owen Wilson To Lead 80s Crime Thriller

XYZ Films is setting crime thriller Lips Like Sugar from director and Grammy-winner Brantley Gutierrez. Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson have been cast as leads in the film with a script by Anthony Tambakis (Gringo, Warrior). Lips Like Sugar is set during the 1984 Olympic Games in LA and loosely based on a true story. Billed as a “neon-soaked, coming-of-age thriller set against the gritty backdrop of the punk and skate worlds of West Los Angeles,” the film centers on a new friendship that unfolds between two teenage girls from different walks of life unfolds. As city officials focus on the Olympics, a pair of former detectives’ (Harrelson, Wilson) lives become intertwined when one of the young girls goes missing. THE MAN FROM TORONTO: Kevin Hart Role Plays His Way Into Hitman Hijinks In The Official Trailer

If you can’t help but feel like Netflix is banking on the success of Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Central Intelligence and Tim Story’s Ride Along movies, you’re not alone. At any rate, you get what you get with the official trailer for Patrick Hughes’s The Man From Toronto which arrives on the streamer June 24 and stars Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson. A case of mistaken identity forces a bumbling entrepreneur to team up with a notorious assassin known as The Man from Toronto in hopes of staying alive. It’s worth noting Hughes’s strengths here as he’s already shown himself to be a capable action/comedy filmmaker with The Expendables 3, as well as The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel. He’s also directing a reimagining for The Raid at some point after this so maybe there’s some value in checking this one out. Fingers crossed!

Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard) is well on the up-and-up at Netflix this season. The streamer’s latest acquisition of Hughes’ latest out of Sony Pictures, The Man From Toronto, will bow in all territories sans China later this year, following in line with Sony’s first look with the streamer in 2021. Penned by Robbie Fox and Chris Bremner, The Man From Toronto stars Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, and “revolves around a case of a mistaken identity after the world’s deadliest assassin, known as the “man from Toronto,” (Harrelson) and a stranger, played by Hart, run into each other at an Airbnb. If Godzilla VS Kong hasn’t fully satisfied your monster movie appetite since this Spring, there’s also the promise of finally getting to see one of Marvel’s most menacing villains on the big screen in sequel fashion with Venom: Let There Be Carnage coming to theaters on September 24. The official trailer is now streaming as well, and despite the mixed reactions drawn from the inaugural 2018 film, that it faired well enough to garner a sequel will hopefully guarantee something more promising for those disappointed by the first film. John Lee Hancock (The Founder, Saving Mr. Banks, The Blind Side) will direct Highwayman in a deal long in the works that now sees the lingering crime drama in development at its new home at Netflix. The project was initially brewing at Universal Pictures for four years with a script by John Fusco that has since been redone by Hancock. The film, according to Deadline, is the long-awaited feature-length treatment of the Depression Era story told from the angle of Frank Hamer and Manny Gault as they led a posse of commissioned lawmen to bring an end to the infamous and deadly crime spree led by Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in the 1930s. Not to be (or should be) outdone is Rupert Wyatt’s own intial 2011 offering rebooting the Apes saga but Reeves has done something albeit incredible with this property in the last two installments, and I’m happy that its come as far as it has.
