It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t talk about director Matt Reeves’s upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes. Not to be (or should be) outdone is Rupert Wyatt’s own intial 2011 offering rebooting the Apes saga but Reeves has done something albeit incredible with this property in the last two installments, and I’m happy that its come as far as it has.
Thus we see the return of Andy Serkis as the intelligent and evolved Caesar fighting to protect a young girl in his care as he and the apes are forced once again into a deadly conflict, this time with a ruthless Colonel played by Woody Harrelson. It’s a battle to which its distant end will only be seen with an increasing bodycount as the compelling final trailer shows ahead of its July 14 release.
Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary also star in this seemingly riproaring endeavor from 20th Century Fox; It’s also worth noting that it’s helped Reeves advance his career with producer status for The Batman which is a plus for me and so I’m definitely looking forward to this one.
