Taika Waititi Joins Disney/Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS Franchise For New Film
It was back in January that THR broke the news of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi’s possible involvement on a new Star Wars feature film project.
Those prospects are finally shapening up with Disney/Lucasfilm confirming the news on Monday, with Waititi co-penning the script with Academy Award nominee and BAFTA award recipient Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho).
Waititi’s current run with the franchise in a galaxy far far away stands with the first season of hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, on which he helmed the season finale. He is also attached to Thor: Love and Thunder for Disney/Marvel Studios, which is currently due for February 2022.
Plot details on the new Star Wars film are currently hidden in the bowels of the Sarlacc Pit while the news also brings the arrival of Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette), who will write, exec produce and showrun a new Star Wars series from for Disney+.
