THE DEPUTY: First Look At Duke Nicholson In Matt Sukkar’s Crime Thriller Debut
Matt Sukkar’s feature directorial debut, The Deputy, has a first look still currently online featuring actor Duke Nicholson (Jordan Peele’s Us, Julian Schnabel’s Hand of Dante) which you can view below. Nicholson is joined by William H. Macy (Fargo, Magnolia, Boogie Nights), Tiffany Haddish (Universal’s Girls Trip, Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter, Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die), Stephen Dorff (HBO Max’s “True Detective” and “The Righteous Gemstones”), Julia Fox (A24’s Uncut Gems, Stephen Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move and Presence), Billie Lourd (FX’s “American Horror Story”, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl), Devon Ross (MUBI’s My First Film, A24/Max’s “Irma Vep”), and Colleen Camp (Apocalypse Now, Alexander Payne’s Election, David O. Russell’s American Hustle) for the new film currently screening for buyers at the American Film Market.
“Narcos” co-creator and co-writer Carlo Bernard penned The Deputy based on the titular novel by acclaimed writer Victor Gischler (Gun Monkeys). In the action crime thriller, Deputy Toby Sawyer (Nicholson) is jolted awake in the dead of night by Chief Krueger (Macy) to guard a dead body until the coroner arrives. When the corpse mysteriously vanishes, Toby launches a frantic search and unwittingly discovers decades of wrongdoing…and several cops who have turned a blind eye, including Deputy Billy Banks (Dorff) who pressures Toby to ignore his findings. Only Deputy Amanda Jackson (Haddish) appears trustworthy. Desperate to keep his job, Toby must unravel the town’s deep web of corruption before his career – and his life – end up as dead as the missing cadaver.
Sukkar is producing as are Andrew Stevens (The Boondock Saints, The Pledge starring Jack Nicholson, The Ritual starring Al Pacino) for Andrew Stevens Entertainment, and Hicham Benkirane (Murder City) under his HBK F.C. banner, which developed and packaged the project with Sukkar. Highland Film Group is handling world sales at AFM.
