If you’ve kept up at all with viral video internet gems like fighting stick figure flash animations over the last ten years, then you can appreciate what the good folks behind The Legend Among Gods is up to this season on Kickstarter.
The team behind animated stick figure action shorts Combat Gods 1 and 2 are working to finance up to $15,000 for post production to complete an animated feature which they describe as “a high-octane stick figure anime filled to the brink with insane action scenes” that also serves as “a meta-narrative about the emergence of a new breed of hero”.
‘The Legend’ sees himself as a mortal among Gods; a fable of potential only to be trampled by impenetrable god-like forces looking to preserve the status quo: No new Gods or powers capable of usurping the natural order of the realm.
Anime has ensnared the hearts of millions because of the versatile and flexible message within its core: self-empowerment by generating power from within and flowing like water amidst all adversities. However, when this Eastern philosophy is presented to the Western psyche, it is interpreted differently as a raw form of empowerment-porn preaching that every being powerful enough to transcend normal human limitations is a God—and a monomyth to be worshiped. One that must relentlessly pursue higher levels of power until the end of time.
This confusion of ideals sits at the crux of The Legend Among Gods.
The campaign is also striving toward stretch goals that reach well up to $50,000, with a splashy list of rewards and perks to earn per donations, including anywhere from soundtrack copies and t-shirts, to executive producer credit and a chance to attend a theatrical premiere party (conditions pending, of course).
