THE MAN FROM NOWHERE: Tanigaki And Taslim Circling Indonesian Remake For New Asian Film Production Pact

As if the hype from the upcoming release of The Furious wasn’t enough, fans can now add an upcoming Indonesian remake of 2010’s hit South Korean action noir, The Man From Nowhere to their fandom calendars. Kenji Tanigaki is in talks to direct the film, reuniting with actor Joe Taslim for the project acfording to Variety’s Naman Ramachandran on Wednesday.
The film is part of a pact being overseen by Asia Media Alliance’s John Radel, Delon Tio’s Nation Pictures, and Red Packet Media’s Mike Leeder, with The Man From Nowhere serving as one of three upcoming prospects. The other two are Pierre Morel’s The Good Samaritan starring Daisy Ridley, and Pendekar: Warrior, which is currently in pre-production with Iko Uwais starring for Radel to direct following announcements in February.
A remake of Lee Jeong-beom’s The Man From Nowhere had been in the works for years in the West but nothing ever transpired. Featuring slick action sequences by Park Jung-ryul (Inside Men, Typhoon), actor Won Bin led the film alongside young actress Kim Sae-ron for the riveting story of a former special agent-turned-reclusive pawnshop keeper who, in the wake of a police investigation into his past, turns to his old skillset when his junkie neighbor’s daughter is kidnapped by organ-trafficking gangsters looking for stolen drugs.
Tanigaki and Taslim are riding a wave of hype these days with the upcoming release of The Furious, a bonafide action thriller exec produced by Bill Kong of Edko Films Ltd. and XYZ Films. It stars Taslim alongside Chinese actor and martial artist Xie Miao who plays a tradesman on a quest to save his kidnapped daughter, and opens in the U.S. on June 12 from Lionsgate.
