As one of the biggest sellers over at Cannes a few months ago, director
Lee Suk-hoon‘s new action adventure,
The Pirates, has been likened to the blockbuster success story that is Disney’s
Pirates Of The Carribean franchise. This probably couldn’t come at a better time with the latter getting ready for another installment and
Lee‘s new film has already made waves, leaving an impression for buyers representing up to fifteen territories, including Well Go USA for North America.
Further dates are pending, but South Korea will get its first look at the film starting on August 6, with the latest trailer aiming directly at fans of epic high seas adventures, sea monsters, and swashbuckling fantasy action.
SYNOPSIS:
At the onset of Joseon’s founding, envoys bringing the Emperor’s Seal of State to Joseon lose it to a big whale at sea. A bandit Sa-jung goes out to sea to catch the whale with a big reward on its head. But he soon clashes with Yeo-wol, a female captain of pirates, and unexpected adventure unfolds.
Principle leads Son Ye-jin and Kim Nam-gil star with actress and k-pop girl band f(x) member Sulli, and actors Lee Kyung Young, Kim Tae Woo, Yoo Hae Jin, Oh Dal Soo, Ahn Nae Sang, Park Chul Min, and Jo Dahl Hwan. Check out the trailer below and stay tuned for updates from Well Go USA!
