TRAVERSE: NEXT LEVEL: Grandmaster Jun Tamegai’s Martial Arts Sequel Sets February Japan Release. Catch The Trailer!
Yuki Okada’s 2019 martial arts indie thriller, Traverse, is getting a sequel to meet genre fans well into the new year this time with Traverse: Next Level. Actor, Karate Grandmaster and Japan Action Club progeny Jun Tamegai is back and reprising his role from the previous film now under the stewardship of director and stunt professional Baek Seon-cheol, who served as the action director in the previous installment.
Traverse: Next Level centers on our protagonist, former martial arts instructor Jun Takanashi (Tamegai) following the events of the first film in which the mysterious death of his wife led to a violent showdown with the vicious criminal organization, Scorpion, to rescue his daughter, Rina. The new story is set six years later in which Takanashi and Rina (played by Seki Nakano) have been living in seclusion and off the radar to avoid Scorpion’s minions who have now sent their deadliest unit, the Cleaners, to track them down and finish them off.
Alain Roy, Naoko Kishimoto, Chuck Johnson, Yoichi Okamura, Emi Mishima, and Masanori Mimoto are among some of the names now added to the mix of Baek’s sequel, which enjoyed pre-release screenings back in November. Production has since begun touting a February 27 launch beginning at Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa in Tokyo.
I suspect we’ll have some new trailer and image assets in due time now that the word is out. For now, the film has a few teaser trailers already making the rounds which you can view below.
