I am one of those people who believes that “spooky season” begins September 1st so now that we are in October, it’s basically Halloween. And what better way to celebrate Halloween than to treat yourself with the Universal Classic Monsters Icons of Horror Collection?
I was lucky enough to receive a copy for review before this collection’s release. Not only does the collection include four of the classic monster movies (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, and The Wolf Man), but there are tons of extras.
Although I am a horror fan and have a deep appreciation for these monster icons, I have not seen these films in years! So it was very enjoyable to have this package delivered to my home right at the beginning of October. Being able to re-watch the monster movies was like getting reacquainted with an old friend.
Here is the synopsis of the collection:
From the era of silent movies through present day, Universal Pictures has been regarded as the home of the monsters. Universal Classic Monsters Icons of Horror Collection showcases four of the most iconic monsters in motion picture history including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and The Wolf Man. Starring Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr. and Claude Rains in the roles that they made famous, these original films set the standard for a new horror genre with revolutionary makeup, mood-altering cinematography and groundbreaking special effects.
Besides being able to re-watch the four monster movies, this collection provides even more entertainment. I still have not finished the hours of extras in this set. There is Dracula in Spanish, there are behind-the-scenes documentaries and commentaries which gives the viewer a much appreciated look behind the curtains of these classics.
So, if you want to add to your horror movie collection, I highly recommend this collection. Or as you are starting your holiday shopping this year, keep this item in mind for the monster fan in your life. Universal Classic Monsters Icons of Horror Collection is available now on 4K, Blu-ray, and digital.
