Universal’s FAST Spin-Off Confirms David Leitch To Direct
Universal Pictures officially moved on Thursday to confirm David Leitch as the director of the upcoming Fast saga spin-off with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The news comes about two months since Leitch’s name arose with potential toward helming the film that would reunite the two cast members in their respective roles of Luke Hobbs and former soldier-turned-mercenary Decard Shaw since The Fate Of The Furious.
Time will tell if whether or not this will be it for Johnson following his prolific, ongoing dispute with franchise headliner and producer Vin Diesel which Johnson recently resolved, mostly as a matter of creative differences. What is definitely known, however, is that with Leitch having proven himself co-directing John Wick and sitting at the helm for Atomic Blonde and this summer’s Deadpool 2, is that this newest spin-off endeavor is sure to be a lighting-fast, supercool action thriller.
Further casting and crewing remain pending ahead of the film’s July 26, 2019 release. The following graphic appeared on the film’s social media pages.
Native New Yorker. Lover of all things pizza, chocolate, pets, and good friends. Karaoke hero. Left of center. Survivor. Fond supporter of cult, obscure and independent cinema - especially fond of Asian movies and global action cinema. Author of the bi-weekly Hit List. Founder and editor of Film Combat Syndicate. Still, very much, only human.
