Martial Arts Movie Junkie recently forwarded updates regarding the cancellation of the production of the film Distant Shore. A source at Scott Adkins Fanz stated no other reason except that funding for the project at the last minute.
The
film was set to begin filming before the production of Expendables 3, starring Expendables alumni
Scott Adkins and
Randy Couture in a story described as a cross between Phillip Noyce’s 1989 thriller,
Dead Calm, and Joe Carnahan’s 2012 action adventure film,
The Grey, about a couple who sail out to the ocean to committ suicide, only to find themselves fighting for their survival after being interrupted by the arrival of another mysterious vessel. The film was to be produced by Joe and Jack Nasser under their production banner NGN Releasing, along with Studio City Pictures, with a screenplay by Dan Benamor and Evan Jacobs, and
Dominic James helming.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time a project involving Adkins would be cancelled. 2010 would have eventually seen Scott Adkins on board with French action impressario and traceur Cyril Raffaelli for the Andrzej Bartkowiak helmer,
Dark Deal, set to begin production in Turkey, Thailand and Russia until it got cancelled unexpectedly, disappointing a lot of action fans across the world and bestowing only a three-and-a-half minute
training reel showing what likely would have been a great international collaboration among action performers.
As it stands, though, it is commonplace at times for projects to get cancelled for whatever reason. Rest assured however, for Adkins and Couture, where one door closes, plenty more will open; Couture is expected to co-star with Vinnie Jones and fellow Expendables alumni Dolph Lundgren in the upcoming release of Rush, directed by Giorgio Serafini for Voltage Pictures (the same company collaborating with B&E Productions for Lady Bloodsport) with Benny “The Jet” Urquidez as stunt coordinator.
Meanwhile, fans can expect Adkins to reignite martial arts action fanfare with the upcoming
James Nunn helmer,
Green Street Hooligans 3: Underground. Adkins will also be seen in France this May with Lundgren in the
Eric Styles-directed fantasy action adventure,
Legendary: Tomb Of The Dragon, and the upcoming martial arts action thriller,
Ninja 2, directed by
Isaac Florentine, with action choreography by
Tim Man. Moreover, if all goes well, writer, director and action choreographer
Joey Ansah may very well get his wish to see Adkins in a future appearance as “Guile” following the start of production of the newly-confirmed live action series,
Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.
Expect more updates in the near future!
