YU YU HAKUSHO: Takumi Kitamura Is A Spirit Warrior In Training In The Newest Trailer

Netflix’s five-part rollout of live-action series Yu Yu Hakusho is ramping up its campaign for its December 14 premiere, and with new stills already circulating, a brand new trailer is also online to make the show’s case. To boot, the streamer also revealed key details about the show’s use of visual effects, crediting VFX production house Scanline VFX in contributing to the recreations of many aspects of the show, including locations, CG characters and spectacular battle scenes to come.

“To what extent CGI-characters can be shown close-up depends on the distance from the camera, whether there’s dialogue, and the facial expression,” said visual effects director Tomofumi Akahane. “With Scanline VFX on board, we were able to reach higher than any other Japanese title and achieve a quality where the average viewer won’t be able to tell that CGI is actually CGI.”

Sho Tsukikawa directs the series from a screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima, and features action sequences by Takahito Ouchi (High&Low franchise, Black Butler, Kamui Gaiden), based on mangaka Yoshihiro Tagashi’s longstanding hit Shueisha Jump Comics publication. The cast is led by Takumi Kitamura who plays the lead role of Yusuke Urameshi, a delinquent student thrust into the most epic battle of his life when a heroic act that takes his life sets him on a new journey as a spirit detective, encountering new allies and foes along the way.

Netflix’s Yu Yu Hakusho also stars Jun Shison as Kurama, Kanata Hongo as Hiei, Shuhei Uesugi as Kazuma, Sei Shiraishi as Yusuke’s schoolmate and love interest Keiko, Kotone Furukawa as Botan, Ai Mikami as Yukina, Hiroya Shimizu as Karasu, Keita Machida as Koenma, Meiko Kaji as Master Genkai, Goro Inagaki as Sakyo, and actors Kenichi Takitoh and Go Ayano as the Elder and Younger Toguro Brothers, respectively.
