Prepare Yourself For A New Season Of MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY
Versatile television personality Chris Hardwick was the host of the Streamy Awards on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. The show featured musical performances and also paid tribute to quality online content creators who produce their own material to broadcast to audiences worldwide on the internet. One segment viewers got to look at on Sunday was the new footage for the upcoming second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, produced by the Bandito Brothers and directed by none other than Kevin Tancharoen, which you can view below:
Mortal Kombat Legacy Season 2 – Trailer
Unlike the first season written by Aaron and Todd Helbing, Tancharoen along with new writers Josh Baizer and Marshall Johnson put focus solely on the tournament for the second season. The cast will comprise of old and new faces, including Ian Anthony Dale and Samantha Jo Tjhia reprising their roles as Scorpion and Kitana respectively, along with Kim Do Nguyen as Ermac, Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Brian Tee as Liu Kang, David Lee McInnis as Raiden, Eric D. Steinberg as Sub-Zero, Harry Shum as Kuai Liang, Michelle Lee as Mileena, Eric Jacobus as Kurtis Stryker, Daniel Southworth as Kenshi, Mark Dacascos as Kung Lao and last but not least, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa in a celebratory revival of his role as Shang Tsung since his appearance in the feature film, Mortal Kombat in 1995.
Since the leak of the shortfilm, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth in 2010, Tancharoen has gained distinct notoriety for his creative and unique vision for the film franchise founded on Midway’s initial arcade game release in 1992, Mortal Kombat, created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. With a long series of follow-up games, the feature release of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a comic book debut, a cartoon and the broadcast of the television series, Mortal Kombat: Conquest among other things, the fighting game most known for its brutal special moves and x-ray combos, bloody, bloody fatalities, hidden codes, wacky friendships and babalities, and sequences that tested your might for close to twenty years, has earned immense popularity among gamers and film fans alike, with even long-waited expectations for a third film that never happened to due a series of slow downs that includes the tragedy and devastation left behind by Hurricane Katrina, and a now-dismissed lawsuit between Warner Brothers and Threshold Entertainment.
As with the nature of live-action media oriented from fighting games, some fans remained skeptical that the source material would be taken seriously and treated the way fans want it to be treated. Specifically, some were a little more critical of certain changes made to the cast for the second season of the webseries. However, with its proven success and appeal to viewers, Mortal Kombat: Legacy not only brings a new sense of promise that fans will likely continue to support as soon as pre-production begins for the upcoming big screen reboot of Mortal Kombat, but bold inspiration on behalf of other talented filmmakers and athletes such as Joey Ansah and Christian Howard, currently leading the way to the development of the new television series, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, based on Capcom’s self-titled fighting game franchise.
So far, the highly-limited facts surrounding the Mortal Kombat reboot movie itself suggest it is currently in development with a budget of around forty or fifty million, and will be based on a script by Oren Uziel with its own story written seperately from the webseries. Also, Kevin Tancharoen and Larnell Stovall will carry their positions from the webseries into the film as director and fight choreographer, respectively, along with confirmed word that actor, filmmaker, martial artist and instructor Michael Jai White will return to reprise his role from season one and Rebirth as Jax. No word on who will play the character Kabal, Goro or the other characters.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 2 will air on on Machinima‘s Youtube channel this Spring.
