AFM: Crime Thriller, DIVA, Takes To The Stage Next Year For Evolutionary

Multi award winning UK singer-songwriter and former X-factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos (Big Fat Gypsy Gangster) will make her way to the big screen applying her craft in Evolutionary Films‘ new crime thriller, Diva. The film will mark a debut lead role for the decorated recording artist who is also working on the film’s original soundtrack which aims to showcase her mainstream appeal as well as her urban and hip-hop roots.
Sista C is an international pop sensation. But when her younger sister is murdered in a brutal gangland killing in London, she must put her fame to one side and leave her home in Los Angeles to try to uncover the truth about what happened to her.
With apparently little support from the local police force, Sista C immerses herself in the seedy underworld of the turf war engulfing London’s streets as rival gangs struggle to take control of the city.
As she delves deeper into her sister’s life and begins to suspect who may have been responsible for her death, Sista C is drawn into more and more danger as she disguises herself to go undercover as a session singer on the London club circuit in order to seduce a confession from the killers.
Diva reunites Contostavlos with director John Adams who previously served as line-producer on one of Contostavlos’ earlier credits, Demons Never Die. Evolutionary’s own Diane Shorthouse will produce.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Evolutionary films on this project and getting creative in the studio. This is a very exciting time,” said Tulisa.
Diva is the latest from Evolutionary in its in-house slate next to its m.o. in serving financing, production, international sales and UK distribution. The company is also home to Ross Boyask’s own works, including the U.S.-released I Am Vengeance from Saban, and its recently wrapped principle returning Boyask to the helm with ex-WWE superstar Stu Bennett to the screen starring alongside Vinnie Jones.
Evolutionary Films CEO, John Adams commented, “The world has changed in the twenty six years since The Bodyguard spawned the most successful movie soundtrack of all time and instead of needing protection from a former secret service agent, our story is about an empowered independent woman who is willing to risk everything to uncover the truth about what happened to her little sister. Tulisa is perfect to play this role – a strong ‘female boss’ ready to kick-ass in a slick revenge action film and we can’t wait to get stuck in!”
Tulisa is represented by Gareth Varey & Alex Segal at InterTalent Rights Group in the UK.
