It’s been close to five years since we last heard about the pending feature-length adaptation of Marc Olden’s Black Samurai novels – previously in series form. News as of Thursday now has the project in new hands, with Netflix announcing its own feature-length development of the IP. John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski will direct from a script by Netflix series Raising Dion co-exec producer, Leigh Dana Jackson. Based on the 1974-75 novels, Black Samurai will introduce Robert Sand, an American soldier in Japan who learns the ways of the most powerful martial arts, and becomes The Black Samurai, embarking on a mission to stop dangerous forces who threaten everything he holds dear. Better late than never, I guess. Folks who are subscribed to Tubi and wondering if any updates were made to director Ranjeet Marwa’s Exiled: The Chosen Ones following the streamer’s recent release of an uncolored version can now take a gander at it in a more color-corrected and finished format. I previously screened the film for a second time upon its Tubi release and in my review, I disclosed that the version the platform published looked like an unfinished film rushed to its release. Marwa took to the film’s Instagram account in a post the other day, citing a partial quote from my review while informing fans that his team “has worked around the clock to ensure that the version delivered to Tubi is much better.” Indeed it does. RUTHLESS: Dermot Mulroney Tapped To Headline Revenge Thriller From Art Camacho

Premiere Entertainment Group is launching sales at the American Film Market next month for Ruthless, a new revenge thriller from action veteran Art Camacho (Sci-Fighter, Wild League). Dermot Mulroney (RLJE Films’ Section 8, Amazon Prime series “Hanna”) is set to star from a script by Camacho and co-scribe James Dean Simington, with additional casting being finalized as cameras are set to roll next week Monday in Nevada. Mulroney will star as a high school coach “traumatized by the death of his daughter, who takes matters into his own hands by going after the men who kidnap one of his students for a sex trafficking operation.” Elias Axume is producing for Premiere with Al Bravo of Al Bravo Films. THE NAKED GUN: Paramount Moves Forward On Reboot Of Classic Crime Comedy

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a reboot of The Naked Gun, according to Deadline’s Justin Kroll. Actor Liam Neeson is set to star in the film with Akiva Schaffer to direct from a script by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers) and with Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins producing through Fuzzy Door. Kroll notes that Neeson “may be playing the son of officer Frank Drebin instead of stepping into the shoes made famous by Leslie Nielsen.” Previous reports have noted that Neeson might have been on par to play the Drebin character. Scott with knowledge of his condition has informed us that the cause of Scott’s death this week, as reported on Wednesday, was attributed to a gastrointestinal issue caused by diabetes. A GoFundMe campaign is underway to help fund a memorial in his honor to be held by wife, Isabell. Published October 12, 2022: Wednesday, I learned the shocking news that filmmaker R.L. Scott passed away at the age of 45. The cause of his death remains unknown, so this is a developing story, and I will update this post when I learn the facts in full.
