If you’ve been following this site for the last few years, you’ll notice the gargantuan fuss I’ve been making about Japanese stunt professional-turned-director Kensuke Sonomura, whose well-earned ceremony with his hit directorial debut Hydra, starring actor Masanori Mimoto, continues to this day. Thankfully, there’s more to report as film production in Japan gracefully ramped up a little more in the past year, and so the aforementioned duo have certainly been keeping busy. This especially goes for the latest reports out of the region on Sonomura’s sophomore feature, Bad City, which kicked off production in November and was officially announced to the press just several days ago in Nakama City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The full line-up for for next year’s 34th annual SXSW festival is set to publish next month, while the organization has already lined-up its opening night premiere with Swiss Army Man helmers The Daniels’ (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) new sophomore action comedy, Everything Everywhere All At Once. Leading the way from its heyday as a celebrated short story by Dewi Lestari, to a heralded film franchise and webseries, director Angga D. Sasongko has returned with a third outing in the Filosofi Kopi saga. Titled Ben & Jody from Visinema Pictures, actors Chicco Jericho and Rio Dewanto reprise their respective titles roles, continuing the saga that began as an award-winning tale of two struggling coffeeshop owners. Things have definitely changed since the 2015 story, with a script written by Sasongko and co-scribe M. Up for some more Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie? STX is signaling fans with a new poster released on Tuesday for Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, which opens in theaters on January 21, 2022. Peep the artwork just beneath the plot details below, and keep an eye out for the trailer which drops Tuesday. In the film, super spy Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) must track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology wielded by billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant). ComingSoon.net presented the official trailer for Asif Akbar’s new film, The Commando. The film joins action star Michael Jai White and Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke with Akbar directing from a script by Koji Steven Sakai. “In this edge-of-your-seat crime thriller, an elite DEA agent (White) returns home after a failed mission when his family makes an unexpected discovery in their house – a stash of money worth $3 million,” reads the official synopsis. “They soon face the danger and threat of a newly released criminal (Rourke) and his crew who will do whatever it takes to retrieve the money – including kidnap the agent’s daughters. Gravitas Ventures is proudly presenting the trailer for single-take Aussie crime thriller, Watch The Sunset. Tristan Barr stars in the film along with Chelsea Renee Zeller, Aaron Walton, Michael Gosden, Zia-Zantis Vinycomb and more. Watch the Sunset, follows Danny Biaro (Tristan Barr), a man desperately trying to escape his outlaw bikie gang, The Bloodless Brothers. In violently breaking his bond, he sets into motion a series of events that will change his world, and those around him forever which all unfolds in one single continuous shot. Danny must now race against the clock, and the gang, to reach his estranged family before it’s too late. Michael Matteo Rossi has an ample share of directing credits on shorts and features all dating back to 2007. I haven’t seen a single one up to this point so, really, if you’re unlike me in that regard, it’s up to you discern how my thoughts on his latest film, The Handler, affect you any. Clocking in at eighty-five minutes, six of which include runtime for the slow-crawling end-credits, The Handler opens with a montage of Ryker (Chris Levine) at a much happier stage of his life. I didn’t get word of this until the morning after, but today is actually day two of Korean Movie Night at Home: Historical Films Series, a new program this month being hosted by the Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY), a branch of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of the Republic of Korea. The program launched on December 3 and runs until December 19, so that’s plenty of time to head over to the official website and check these titles out for free for the program’s duration. MINNAL MURALI: Basil Joseph’s New Superhero Thriller Teases With Dark Allure

The campaign for director Basil Joseph’s new Malayalam superhero thriller, Minnal Murali, has been a light-hearted affair up to this point since Netflix proceeded its September announcement with a first trailer back in October. A new trailer is currently making the rounds though, and it definitely emulates something much darker, serious and supernatural to its imagery. I reckon this should balance things out enough to cover the bases some. Set in the 90s, Minnal Murali is an origin story of an ordinary man-turned-superhero Murali, who is struck by a bolt of lightning, which bestows him with special powers. Minnal Murali is produced by Weekend Blockbusters (Sophia Paul), and stars Tovino Thomas in the title role, along with Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan and Aju Varghese, and will stream worldwide on December 24.
