Within the first few seconds of the official trailer for Tan Chui Mui’s new drama, Barbarian Invasion, you might bid that what happens to the two police officers approaching our unsuspecting protagonist sleeping on a park bench doesn’t end well if Doug Liman’s 2002 remake of classic spy thriller The Bourne Identity is anything to by. Alas, that’s part of the aesthetic we’re handed here, with Tan wearing multiple hats for her third outing as director, in addition to writing the script and starring as the lead for her first feature in over ten years. Director Gareth Evans (Apostle) shot his shot earlier this year with Netflix, scoring a major deal to produce several projects in a creative partnership with the streamer. The first to come will be Havoc, as announced back in February with Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker set to star. Kim Yong Wan‘s 2020 tvN supernatural drama, The Cursed, now comes full circle with a feature length continuation set to release on July 28 with CJ ENM’s The Cursed: Dead Man’s Prey. Read that title again, and then take into account that this film is also written by Yeon Sang-ho, the man who brought zombie film fandom to fruition with a trilogy of zombie thrillers, notably 2016’s Train To Busan and its sequel, Peninsula. Marvel Studios released the newest official trailer for Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings on Thursday evening. The film brings Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and screen legends Tony Leung Ka-Fai and Michelle Yeoh to the table for one of the latest chapters in the nascent fourth phase of Marvel’s filmic exploits. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. Agreeably, not everyone I’ve spoken to is approving of how it looks so far – I’m saving my own judgment until I read reviews or actually get to see it myself. Currently underway is principal photography for The Good Neigbor, director Stephan Rick’s English-language reincarnation of his own German 2011 thriller which has a new first look photo above. Highland Film Group is selling the film internationally with actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Luke Kleintank starring from a script Rick wrote with Ross Patridge. When the dead girl’s sister shows up to investigate, David, overcome with guilt, wonders if he can find redemption while Robert is determined to bury the past and keep his new friend for himself, no matter the cost. The Good Neighbor is being produced by Dean Altit (Misfits) and Yulia Zayceva (WarHunt). CAA is repping the film domestically.

The ninth chapter of the Fast saga, F9, arrives this weekend in North America, just as it continues to make a killing with earnings of well over $293 million dollars, internationally. With that, the trajectory is a hopeful one that stands pretty tall for Universal Pictures who have long since plotted a course for there to be a decalogy of films, now with word that the tenth installment, according to franchise star and producer Vin Diesel will shoot the next film in two parts beginning in January. “I’m doing Fast ten, part one and part two, the finale of the saga in January.” Diesel tells Regal Movies reporter Matthew Hoffman. Donnybrook helmer Tim Sutton’s new western, The Last Son, is currently selling hard for multiple buyers via the Cannes market this week. Red Arrow Studios’ Gravitas Pictures has picked up director Miles Doleac’s new thriller, Demigod, for a day-and-date release TBA for late October 2021. Rachel Nichols (Continuum, Star Trek) stars from a script penned by Doleac and co-writer Michael Donovan Horn, with Lindsay Anne Williams, Yohance Myles, Elena Sanchez, and Jeremy London also starring. I suppose if we were ever gonna get a live-action anything attributed to animated series classic, Thundercats, it would only be imbued through more independent measures. Such is what we’re delighted with now thanks to the fanfare offered up in stunt industry multihyphenate and television veteran Larnell Stovall’s new short, Atophrn, hailing this latest inspired work from burgeoning actor Corey Calliet, along with a guest appearance by actor and action star Daniel Bernhardt. Stovall’s long been a fan favorite among action fans and is no stranger to the director’s chair, having fallen on own my radar many years earlier with shorts like Trouble Everyday and action horror favorite, Steel. Staking their claim at the moment with presentations to buyers at Cannes, sales agent Lotte debuted the official international previews for director Ryoo Seung-wan’s latest political thriller, Escape From Mogadishu, which takes its cues from a real life incident in 1991. Diplomats from the North and South Korean embassies in Somalia attempt a daring joint escape from Mogadishu when the outbreak of civil war leaves them stranded. Escape From Mogadishu stars Kim Yoon-seok, Jo In-sung, Heo Joon-ho and Kim So-jin, and is set to release in South Korea from Lotte Cultureworks on July 28. Get Ready For WARHORSE ONE From The Director Of ‘Daylight’s End’ And ‘The Brave’

Director William Kaufman‘s got a bit of an itch that needs scratching. Whatever the case is though, he’s definitely taking his time with it as he continues to tease followers and action fans with bits from his latest, Warhorse One. The film reunites Kaufman with actor Johnny Strong who toplines two of Kaufman’s previous action thriller hits, Sinners And Saints and zombie actioner, Daylight’s End. Kaufman’s knack for shoot ’em ups proved to be an absolute thrill with his most recent cop thriller release, The Brave, and so I’m especially looking to see how this checks out in that regard. And so there we have it. No plot details or casting or production specifics yet and time will tell when he’ll post a trailer to provide some long-awaited relief.
