SHADOW IN THE CLOUD Casts Chloe Grace-Moretz Ahead Of EFM

I’ve been waiting to see Chloe Grace-Moretz kick some kind of ass again and now it looks as if that moment will arise very soon with the production of Roseanne Liang’s action horror, Shadow In The Cloud. Endeavor Content is launching international sales at EFM which kicks off next week. As Andreas Wiseman reported at Deadline on Wednesday, Moretz, whose recent credits include Let Me In, Suspiria and upcoming Greta, will play a captain carrying top secret documents aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress as she’s forced to contend with an evil presence, an oncoming Japanese ambush and a leery, all-male crew. Bright and Chronicle scribe Max Landis penned the script. Producing are Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) and Fred Berger (La La Land) from Automatik, as are Four Knight’s Kelly McCormick (Atomic Blonde) and Tom Hern (The Dark Horse). Sandra Yee Ling is executive producing.

Tackling the patriarchy is an underlying theme that at one point actress Olivia Wilde hinted at during her press run for Sarah Daggar-Nickson’s directorial debut, A Vigilante. Wilde makes her foray this time around as Sadie, a former spousal abuse victim who ingeniously and ruthlessly helps other victims turn the tables on their domestic abusers. During this course in her life, she’s also on the hunt for the husband she must kill to truly be free. The film was a well-received feat by festival attendees at SXSW last Spring and you’ll find plenty of equally positive sentiments from critics to boot following screenings in South Korea, Australia and Sweden. And to think it was just three years ago that Legendary was grooming Justin Lin to helm a Hot Wheels movie thirteen years after its development started at Columbia Pictures and then Warner Bros. A lot happens in so few years when it comes to these projects and thus, project is back at Warner Bros. with Mattel, Inc. now making their case to the iconic and timeless toy racing car franchise to its first ever live-action feature film release. FURIE: Veronica Ngo Is Unstoppable In The Official U.S. Poster

Well Go USA is tipping its hat to its consumer base with the first U.S. official poster for director Le Van Kiet’s raucousing actioner, Furie. Paving its way in Vietnam as Hai Phoung in Vietnam for its February 22 release, folks living stateside can now mark on their calendars a select theatrical release on March 1 as well. When a little girl is kidnapped by a trafficking ring, they soon find they messed with the wrong child. Her mother, a notorious former gang leader, is close on their trail and will go to any lengths to bring her child home. Veronica Ngo stars in the new thriller that’s been much ado with Raid hype since its announcement at Cannes last summer. Also starring are Phan Than Nhien and Mai Cat Vi. It’s a damn good time to be a James Gunn fan, especially if you’ve enjoyed the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies he’s directed up until this point. Following up on a report from The Wrap last October, The Hollywood Reporter has it on good terms that Gunn will direct the film now titled The Suicide Squad after penning a script from a previous draft by Gavin O’Connor. Warner Bros. is currently in the midst of a revamp of its properties since taking off with Man Of Steel and leaving off at Justice League – Birds Of Prey and Joker being just a few of the latest examples. QUARTERMASS: British Sci-Fi Hero Adaptation In The Works For Legendary

Screenwriter David Farr is officially leading the charge for Quartermass, a feature film adaptation based on iconic British sci-fi hero “Bernard Quatermass”. Legendary Entertainment is backing the film in partnership with Hammer Films whose Simon Oakes is producing. Made popular by the successful BBC 1950s series, and a trio of films from Hammer Film Productions from the mid-50s to the mid-60s, the Quatermass character is often pointed out as a precursor to “Dr. Who.” Professor Bernard Quatermass is a fictional rocket scientist originally created by writer Nigel Kneale who, as a pioneering force of the British space program, encounters terrifying extra-terrestrial lifeforms and must draw from science to save humanity. KING: Indie Feature Crime Thriller From Up-And-Comer Peter Jang In The Works

I can report that actor and filmmaker Peter Jang is currently in development with King, a feature gangster thriller in which he plans to star and direct. The project is based on an origins-rooted proof-of-concept that will be pitched for financing this year. A dark, violent, consequential riff on an old Winston Churchill quote, King follows the story of Pedro (Jang) who avenges his father’s murder by killing rival leaders of two crime syndicates. Soon after, he finds himself hunted by both and must survive by killing his way to the top. Just days away from the official trailer Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw, director David Leitch is marking a new foray into graphic novel territory with Undying Love, as reported by Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline on Wednesday. The Image Comics publication rolled out in 2011 from the minds of Tom Coker and Daniel Freedman. Warner Bros. Pictures initially nabbed the rights that year prior to hiring filmmaker Alex Aja, and then Joe Carnahan to direct the following year. Fast forward to 2019 and the project is now in the hands of Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 outfit. Park Chan-wook’s 2000 drama, Joint Security Area, is now the subject of Gladiator and Amistad screenwriter David Franzoni’s latest directing push according to Andreas Wiseman at Deadline. Actress Lee Yeong-Ae led the 2000 original as it centered on a Swiss/Korean investigator’s impartial inquiry into a violent incident at the Demimilitarized Zone between North and South Korean soldiers. The film is inspired by Park Sang-yeon’s own 1996 novel, DMZ. Franzoni’s treatment, titled officially JSA, will instead see its story unfold about a love affair between a U.S. Marine and a female Spanish infantry lawyer who is sent by The Hague to investigate a shoot-out between Marines and Mexican special forces. Asakawa Nana Slays In The First Official, And Very Much Red, Teaser For BLOODY CHAINSAW GIRL: RED

Yamaguchi Hiroki is following up on his 2016 Bloody Chainsaw Girl phenomenon with a rousing J-horror tete-a-tete beginning February 22. As signaled by the official teaser now online, Bloody Chainsaw Girl: Red is the name and with both parts respectively titled “Nero’s Revenge” and “Giko’s Revival”. As the gist of the manga tells it, delinquent middle-school Giko is armed with a chainsaw and has a score to settle with Nero, a mad scientist whose sick and twisted experiments have all but turned Giko’s friends into zombies and super-powered mutant creatures. Mangaka Mikamoto Rei inspired the 2009-2017 series which Fukuhara Mitsunori adapted for Yamaguchi’s first adaptation in 2016. Actress Asakawa Nana claims the role of Giko opposite Ano playing Nero – previously played respectively by actress Uchida Rio and Yamachi Mari.

Sierra/Affinity is launching international sales at EFM this month for the new production which centers on the criminal mastermind who unleashed the Dark Net and the ’Jurassic Narc’ bent on bringing down the young kingpin’s billion-dollar empire. The film is based on the Rolling Stone article “Dead End on Silk Road” by David Kushner.
