Having written about this film as much as I and others have, I now patiently wait to help present some news on this film’s distribution stateside. Set in Berlin, the film debuts German action talents, actors Can Aydin, Cha-Lee Yoon and Phong Giang with actor and dancer Eugene Boateng leading the tale of a group of auditioning action star wannabes now forced to fight their way out of the criminal underwold after stumbling into the wrong place at the wrong time. Actress Zhang Ziyi (Hero, 2046, The Grandmaster) is back and upping the ante with a role now forthcoming in the upcoming sequel to Gareth Edwards’s monster hit, Godzilla. Legendary has closed a deal for the actress to star in a role that will have her outfitted within the covert Monarch organization in a story set several years following the events of the 2014 film. Zhang will be joined by Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown and Bradley Whitford, along with returning actor Watanabe Ken. Oscar® winner Forest Whitaker (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Arrival, The Last King Of Scotland) has been tapped to join actor Theo James in the new action thriller, How It Ends. A Single Shot and The Perfect Man helmer David M. Rosenthal directing from a script by Brooks McLaren. The summer film festival scene is looking to be quite the adventure this year, particularly for the 16th edition of the New York Asian Film Festival. The official line-up has already been announced ahead of the festival’s Film Society launch on June 30 with tickets going on sale next week and the NYAFF released a mini teaser to stir the hype some. North America’s leading festival of popular Asian cinema will showcase 57 feature films, including 3 International Premieres, 21 North American Premieres, 4 U.S. Premieres, and 15 films making their New York City debuts. Eureka Entertainment’s Masters Of Cinema rollout continues on June 12 with the U.K. release of Kawashima Yuzo’s 1957 comedy classic, Bakumatsu Taiyô-Den (A Sun-Tribe Myth from the Bakumatsu Era). Pre-orders are now available until then while the new trailer has since been made available with a look at the official box art for its Dual Format Blu-Ray release. The marketing is a little iffy for me as I’m still trying to get a grasp about what will happen after the August 4 release of Miike Takashi’s JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable – Chapter One. The original fourth chapter in the series and its subsequent anime is pretty sizable and a lot does happen for everything to be told in one film. For this, I personally I hope there’s a sequel. In the meantime, legendary auteur Miike Takashi is at the helm for this, his 101st film adapting Araki Hirohiko’s popular manga with this particular portion centered on a young high school student, a Pompadour-wearing, polite-yet-short-tempered “stand user” whose abilities bear a history with his extended family, ensuing an adventure of murder, intrigue and supernatural danger that lurks in his quiet town of Morioh.
