24 HOURS TO LIVE Brings Aboard Common And Xu Qing For Brian Smrz's New Action Thriller

Sierra/Affinity is continuing its PR efforts at Cannes starting this week for the upcoming action thriller, 24 Hours To Live following their earlier EFM run. The film is also one of several films now being planned for select distribution through immersive digital theater brand Barco Escape with Shanghai-based production and distribution company Fundamental Films fully financing, and with actor Ethan Hawke (The Purge, Getaway) starring as of February. This week, word from Deadline now accompanies Hawke’s casting with that of actor Common and Chinese actress Xu Qing. Details surrounding their respective character portrayals are unknown while, under stunt veteran and director Brian Smrz, it is Hawke himself who will play a career assassin who dies during a job, and is subsequently granted one day to redeem himself after being resurrected by his employer. CBS Films Casts Dylan O’Brien To Star In AMERICAN ASSASSIN

With actor Dylan O’Brien currently sidelined due to injuries sustained a few week ago on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, only time will tell when production will be back up and running. Those reports have stated his injuries were much more serious than initially thought and so he will need time to hell, but that still leaves some prospects open for the actor with the current film franchise development of Vince Flynn’s popupar “Mitch Rapp” novel series at CBS Films. Thus, it is now being reported via Deadline that O’Brien is in negotiations for said role in the forthcoming adaptation of American Assassin. Stephen Schiff adapted the script from Flynn’s 2010 novel – an origin story among the 14 books that focuses on Rapp, a counter terrorism operative who takes to task for a series of covert operations for the CIA following the death of his financeé. Yes, by all means, bask in the newly invigorated hopes of what looks to be another awesomely put together martial arts revenge thriller with Mitsutake Kurando’s new movie, Karate Kill. The most recent teaser was unveiled back in February featuring Hayate in the lead, and to much avail for fans who have grown fond of his work since Samurai Avenger and last year’s super sexy, gory and brutal trigger thriller, Gun Woman starring Asami. Edge Of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman is currently attached to quite a few projects. Currently, a 20th Century Fox adaptation of Marvel character Gambit which continues to remain in limbo since late last year as one of several films I’ve been hoping to see movement on and I can’t really imagine what the hold up is. At any rate, the director of upcoming 80’s crime thriller, Mena, has been piling up and as of March, the stack includes The Wall, a new psychological war thriller from Amazon Stuidos in their first foray to original film territory. It certainly raises the curiousity when you hear of a project like Zorro getting a dystopian sci-fi interpretation for feature film potential. That’s exactly what’s happening as of announcements last Summer with the partnering of Lantica Pictures and Sobini Films in the wake of TriStar’s own efforts in 1998 and 2005 in which then-actor Antonio Banderas left an impressive mark of his own as the title character. In all of 16 years, many of us have grown together with Aussie actor Hugh Jackman as he sliced and diced his way to Marvel fame in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movieverse as Wolverine. My weekend wasn’t much. I haven’t had a chance to do much outside of work including going to the movies, but I did have sometime for other things… …One included finishing an anime series, and the other was completing this week’s latest round up of The Hit List. There’s a smaller number of projects this week – only a few to be exact, but there are some worthwhile throwbacks I’ll share in the mix for the time being, including a colossal reel attributed to Corey Yuen’s 1986 Hong Kong action classic, Righting Wrongs by Hong Kong stunt veteran and filmmaker Jude Poyer. I should mention right out of the blocks why I chose the above title for this review. It is a nod to a scene in the movie that, I will swear upon at gunpoint, was a last minute reshoot to directly poke fun at Zack Snyder’s poorly received Batman V Superman: This Is Seriously The Title They Stuck With. You’ll have to see both films to get the joke, provided you’re not already keen to it by the flood of social media memes on the topic. Why Captain America: Civil War is comparable to BvS is the themes. Both films are an approximation of America’s kaiju, specifically the kaiju eiga, our “movie monster” representation of the ongoing conversation on the consequences of 9/11, with BvS being the solipsistic nihilist’s handbook on the subject while Cap 3 holds upon its shoulders the heavier idealistic volume. Little is known on the plot for debut director Tanel Toom’s forthcoming sci-fi epic, Gateway 6, save for a few details. In the meantime, the film is currently drawing up an impressive cast roster which now has Kingsman: The Secret Service co-star, actress Sofia Boutella now starring. Screendaily reports that Toom will direct from Malachi Smyth’s script which sees a military squad stranded on dystopian Earth waiting for relief…or the enemy – whichever comes first. Rounding out the cast so far with Boutella are Jurgen Prochnow, Ed Skrein of Deadpool fame and 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man co-star, Rhys Ifans. The past few months have been somewhat tumultuous for Warner Bros. in the wake of Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Suicide Squad underwent more filming in recent weeks for a number of reasons and The Flash is, once again, in need of a director while the former’s helmer, Zack Snyder, is on notice with fans – mixed reviews and such. Well it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe map is about to change once more as Phase Three takes shape with Captain America: Civil War. It turns out the Marvel’s own Kevin Feige has otherwise confirms that the studio’s eye is on the ball for a Black Widow solo film in which actress Scarlett Johansson would reprise her role. It’s been a while since we heard from filmmaker and actor Mario Van Peebles. Thankfully he’ll be popping up a little more frequently with his latest World War II epic, U.S.S. Indianapolis: Men Of Courage, headed for a release later this year from Hannibal Classics and Patriot Pictures. Actor Nicolas Cage plays Captain Charles Butler McVay who was court-martialed following a deadly attack in the South Pacific in July of 1945 while delivering critical parts for the first atomic bomb. The attack sunk the ship of 1,197, taking 300 below and leaving the remainder to suffer four days alone at sea and exposed to the elements, hunger, and hungry sharks before 317 sailors would be rescued. In the meantime, the actor’s newly announced gig is now in the hands of the sales agents over at Good Films with the new thriller, Wolf In The Wild.
