Swords Clash In The New International Trailer For CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON: SWORD OF DESTINY!

With the Ip Man 3 craze settling by next month, wuxia fans will have plenty of space to take in action legend Yuen Woo-Ping’s newest directorial bid, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny. This one clearly takes a few liberties apart from its award-winning predecessor from helmer Ang Lee, but a proper screening will tell if we’re bound for a sequel worthy of similar attention. Malaysian actor, martial artist and filmmaker Michael Chuah (Seed Of Darkness, Fist Of Dragon, Firefly) is back this year, and he’s not resting up either. With as early as May set for his fifth producfion, his fourth is well on the way for a Chinese New Year release for his latest comedic offering, Special Forces. Frankie Lee (The Journey), a.k.a. “Uncle Frankie” leads the cast with Chuah and a roster of familiars from Chuah’s film resumé, including actor Brendan Yuen and popular radio host KK Wong joining in for a fish-out-of-water tale of crimefighters who may be way in over their heads. A&E, TWC Move Forward With Military Drama, SIX, For History

Following up on A&E’s upcoming scripted series production news on Knightfall, the studio has also announced partnership on a new military action series now in the form of Six. The Weinstein Company is also paring with the studio and Academy Award nominee, producer William Broyles for a story that applies a pretty cool dramatic twist centered on a SEAL team’s mission to take out the Taliban. Been Missing Out On The Hype? No More. Netflix Goes Global.

I have a few friends to thank on my end for helping me be accessible to Netflix when needed, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to muse as much as I do about certain shows and films. I’m in the U.S., so that problem really wasn’t as prevalent as it may have been for other folks around the world and now that’s changing massively. Osborne's BATTLING BOY Adaptation Advances At Paramount, Plan B With New Writer

Reports are now out and about with word from Deadline that multihyphenate Jason Montzoukas is on board to scribe Paramount Pictures’s Battling Boy for producers at Plan B. The film has been in the works since last summer as a live-action animated hybrid  with animator Patrick Osborne set to debut as director following his work on films like Bolt, Wreck-It Ralph and the upcoming March release of Zootopia. The film is based on author Paul Pope’s 2013 publication from First Second Books with a story that takes place in the world of Acropolis where a 12-year old demigod and the daughter of a deceased hero take on subterranean monsters who swallow children whole. OPERATION KAKONGOLIRO: THE UGANDAN EXPENDABLES Gets A Ridiculously Fun Trailer

Follow social media long enough and there’s a good chance you’ll spot some crazy ass movie trailers featuring some of the wackiest and most exaggerated production tropes ever seen from Africa. Namely, you can thank filmmaker Isaac Nabwana whose craft has helped put Uganada’s We Are Wakaliwood on the map in a huge way for African moviegoers with titles like Who Killed Captain Alex? (2010), and at least three other titles to date. This week, Nabwana has released a trailer for his latest successful low-budget hyperviolent action cinemafare, Operation Kakongoliro: The Ugandan Expendables. As of this week, Netflix users can look forward to a slate of new original series content for the subscription platform. It’s great news for fans of 80’s sci-fi and robot animation fanfare who can now expect a reimagining of the classic series, Voltron, as well as followers of Guillermo Del Toro in lieu of a serial transition of his 2015 book series, Trollhunters. I’m pretty happy to see Vietnamese action fanfare still afloat what with any number of titles that could be arriving this year. For this, we turn to director Lê Bảo Trung for his own welcome into the New Year with Lộc Phát, brimming with its own hybrid of action and silly comedy and some exciting stunt sequences of its own. Locals in Vietnam can expect this one to arrive in February, and there isn’t much to go on for any available info in English about this movie.
