This probably not the version Marvel is planning for its own iteration of the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby-created Wakandan superhero, Black Panther. Regardless however, seeing as how warm fans are to Blur Studios’ own Deadpool test footage in the hopes that its owners at 20th Century Fox will grant the R-rated treatment the property deserves, a similar vision is worth considering. I could be wrong though, seeing as how soft some studios have chosen delivering films with PG-13 action that “pushes the envelope” or whatever, and it does feel disconcerting. A new trailer has been unveiled for the forthcoming premiere of the second season of digital series, Cleaners. The show is one of a handful of series of multi-genre programs launched by Crackle, a unit of Sony Pictures Television, since its announcement last May with its premiere six months later. A cast of returning and new faces headline the new season featuring the action-packed misadventures of two sexy contract killers, played by actress and show producer Emmanuelle Chriqui and actress Emily Osment. And just when you thought Hollywood was through with reworking live-action Japanese properties for the big screen, here comes another! Deadline is reporting that the December 2011 publication of the Hero’s Magazine manga, Soul Reviver is officially on track for a Hollywood English-language adaptation. The manga, authored by Akishige, Manabu and scribed by Fujisawa Tohru, centers on Ryusuke Jin, a former detective partnered with Clara Sekimachi, a dead high school girl, as both travel between realms of the living and the dead to rescue select souls whose missions in the living world were not complete. Harry Shum Jr. as Kuai Liang in Mortal Kombat Legacy: Season 2 Production has commensed on director and action auteur Yuen Woo-Ping‘s new film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny, and a cast is now assembling that so far includes returning sequel actress Michelle Yeoh and actors Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse. Production is tentatively expected to last through November this year, and as we move forward, the film is still making announcements on who will officially star, aside from leaving a few names of interest that are otherwise worth mentioning. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, the first of director Keishi Otomo‘s two-part finale to the titular trilogy will finally be out today overseas in Japan long after fans have been glittered with continuous trailers, TV spots and posters. The promotional campaign for the epic live-action manga samurai trilogy that began in 2012, starring Takeru Satoh and Emi Takei, has especially proven positive, thanks in part to the accompanying theme songs, J-pop/rock group, One Ok Rock. Their second and latest theme song for the new franchise installments is titled “Mighty Long Fall”, which is now available in Japan wherever music is sold. They’re small steps considering it’s a zero budget affair, but each are greatly significant in contributing to what he wants to see happen for the action cinema niche in his own country. As such, he now has a new shortfilm out and available for viewing titled Baliw Crazy Style. Update 4:29pm EST: Variety has confirmed that actor Jamie Foxx is in talks to portray Mike Tyson in a yet-to-be-titled feature film, penned by writer Terence Winter and produced by Foxx’s manager Rick Yorn. The film is reportedly without a studio at the moment while the details of what Winter’s script will entail are being ironed out for a transition to the silver screen. There was no mention of Martin Scorsese but things could change, so stay tuned! I’m not too sure if this has anything to do with the classic DeNiro/Grodin 1988 road comedy of the same name, but it does carry its own weight. Stuntman and actor Bryan Sloyer is back once more indie action director and fellow stuntman Emmanuel Manzanares for the quirky new action short, Midnight Run. Sloyer is joined by fellow LBP fall guy Alex Hashioka with a guest performance by fellow stuntman and actor Vonzell Carter in a one-on-one chase that ensues a three way throwdown and a killer finish. You know a franchise has been successful when it continues to remain relevant, especially for a direct-to-DVD run. It’s been more than twenty years since actor Tom Berenger took the role of Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Beckett in the 1993 film, Sniper with director Luis Llosa. Five films later, minus the fourth with actor Chad Michael Collins leading, fans of the franchise have reason to celebrate with the forthcoming DVD and Digital HD release of the new film, Sniper: Legacy. Half Past Dead helmer Don Michael Paul picks up where the previous film left off with Collins in the role of Sgt. Brandon Beckett joining his on-screen father to stop a rogue sniper from killing former U.S. military personnel.
