STALINGRAD 3D Set To Fire Away At North American IMAX Screens This February

Director Fedor Bondarchuk is touring the world in select countries to share his latest explosive venture in film with the forthcoming release of the World War II epic, Stalingrad 3D. A little help from XYZ executive Simon de Bruyn clarifies the item in the picture is called a “patu parāoa”, one of several types of patu representing the ancient weaponry of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. Further Googling details that this particular kind of weapon, carved from whalebone, would be used to bludgeon an enemy’s head, or thrust into the ribs or jaw. For a film that has done significantly well on an international level, you would think The Weinstein Company, who own the rights in English-speaking territories to director Bong Joon-Ho‘s highly acclaimed post-apocalyptic contained sci-fi action epic, Snowpiercer, would stop holding out on the film that the rest of us truly deserve to see by now. But nope, that’s not the case. While we last learned that exclusive test viewings Bong‘s version here in America rated higher than TWC’s edited version, in addition to the director and distributor “talking a lot” about keeping the final cut, nothing has been said publicly so far about what WILL be done. In the tradition of continuing to introduce short practice fights that bring a sense of cinematic production value, the folks over at Fight Factory 108 took to YouTube this week to share their latest little 1-minute gem, Smack(ed) Down, directed by Michael Lehr. Testing out a newly made prop chair in addition to some new camera equipment, the clip featuring two of the team’s own, Katelyn Brooke and Narayana Cabral, both best known for their roles in Micah Brock’s highly successful action comedy webseries, Slug Street Scrappers. French independent filmmaker Godefroy Ryckewaert continues to send us his regards all the way from France with his latest turn to action/horror, Dead End. Despite some last minute troubles and changes to production, eventually the cast and crew were able to find a suitable garage backdrop to showcase Ryckewaert‘s new project, centered around one woman’s escape from a small horde of the undead.
