CANYON DEL MUERTO Rounds Out Cast Ahead Of Late October New Mexico Shoot
Commencing principal photography later this month in Albuquerque, Mexico is independent adventure pic, Canyon Del Muerto, starring Abigail Lawrie (The Man With The Iron Heart), Tom Felton (Ophelia) and Val Kilmer (Paydirt). Coerte Voorhees will direct from his own script, based on two books by one of America’s first female archaeologists, Ann Axtell Morris, on whom the film centers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Etan Vlessing, the film “will tell the true story of Axtell Morris, who helped discover North America’s first civilization.” Felton will play Earl Halstead Morris, Ann’s husband, and reportedly a key figure that inspired the Indiana Jones character, next to historical character, Sylvanus G. Morley – to be played by Ewen Bremner (Wonder Woman). Rounding out the key cast are Elias Koteas, Bronson Webb and Hanako Footman.
Pic hails from Visionary Film, First Line Films and The Vladar Company, with Voorhees and Axtell Morris producing alongside John Voorhees. Exec producing are Lauren Selig, Edwin Mejia Jr, Luke Daniels and Jeff Gum, next to Spiro Frentzas, John Monckton, Vernon LaVia, Leonard J. Brink, Roger Welp, Jay Stamatis, Jeri Calvetti and Thomas Cali. Jeff Botelho and Mary Munez are co-exec producing.
“I want to introduce the story of this heroic and tragic, pioneering woman to audiences around the world because her story was so inspiring to me. We are honored to be working with Ann’s remaining family in addition to the Navajo Nation and National Park Service to retell her story that was lost to time,” Voorhees said in a statement.
